Varsity decides against cancelling test results

The meeting of the MG University syndicate held here on Saturday has decided not to cancel the controversial examination conducted for the selection to Assistant Grade –II category.

Instead, the top 5,000 rankers would have to undergo written test which would have last at least for 90 minutes.

The result of the controversial test, held in 2006 by LBS in Optical Mark Reader (OMR) test mode rather than the descriptive type as recommended by the syndicate was contested by the Left service organisations who had called for cancelling the test. This had

resulted in a Syndicate inquiry and legal wrangles. A vigilance inquiry is also on.

As per the decision of the Syndicate on Saturday, a selection committee with the Vice Chancellor as the chairperson has been

constituted. The procedural formalities will be completed within three months. The syndicate member and CPI leader P.K. Chitrbhanu has written a dissenting note.
