'True Education' course for teachers

MYSORE: Pratham Mysore, a non-governmental organisation helping poor children in the slums of Mysore through its programmes such as balawadi, balaskahi, mobile libraries, etc., will conduct a "True Education" course for English teachers of private and government schools from October 5.

Last year, it exposed some of them to the concept of "True Education" by providing answers to questions by software professionals of a company here. The course comprises 20 sessions, each of 90 minutes duration, twice a week. The subjects to be discussed are what can we learn from world's different leaders?; Science, superstition and modern gurus, capitalism, socialism and communism; World's religions; NGO movement in India; Even after 60 years of Independence, why is India poor?; Do we have energy crisis in India?; Status of education in India; Politics and corruption; What are the five critical areas where India should work on for development and how?; Should we have reservation ?; How can we hold a mirror to our society and what do we see there?; Major world conflicts – liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, environment, energy and development; and How to become a responsible citizen?
