JNTU-K and Michigan to offer MBA

Kakinada: The School of Management Studies (SMS) of JNTU-Kakinada is soon launching a two-year MBA course in collaboration with the Central Michigan University (CMU) as part of internationalisation of education.

Students will be studying the first year on JNTU-K campus and the second year at CMU. The MBA degree will be awarded by the CMU.
Student intake

Announcing this in a press conference on Wednesday, JNTU-K Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao said the joint MBA with CMU would be, for the time being, confined to JNTU-K campus college in Kakinada with an intake of 40 students. The possibility of extending the partnership with CMU to 100 plus MBA colleges in the purview of JNTU-K would be looked into at a later stage.

The dual degree in signal process being offered in collaboration with Sweden-based Blekinge Institute of Technology (BIT) was the first truly international programme wherein JNTU-K and BIT have reciprocal arrangement for students to study at those institutions, whereas the JNTU-K – CMU joint MBA programme would have only Indian students in the initial stages.

As regards the university administration, Prof. Appa Rao said his preference was for greater access to higher education before harping on the quality aspect.

Surprise inspections were planned to find out whether the affiliated colleges complied with norms in terms of faculty and infrastructure. It was prudent to first see that a larger number of youngsters had access to higher education.

Emphasis could be laid on quality only when there were sufficient numbers.
Quality aspect

A committee was constituted at the State level to ensure compliance with quality specifications so that expansion (of higher education) did not result in quality taking the backseat.

JNTU-K was working in tune with this course of action and the cooperation of other universities in the coastal region was sought. Proposals to appoint sociologists and psychologists on the JNTU-K campus college were made to help students keep pace with the times without becoming victims of stress. Students required constant advise and motivation to stay in the reckoning.
