Institutions told to maintain quality of education

Udupi: Syed Akhele Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya University, Mangalore, said on Friday that institutions should give priority to maintaining quality and standard of education.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day State-level conference on "Total Quality Management (TQM) in Educational Institutions with special reference to accreditation and re-accreditation", organised by the Crossland College, Brahmavar, Udupi district.

Prof. Ahmed emphasised on the preventive and curative aspects of quality.

Maintaining quality in educational institutions called for hard work, sincerity, and consistency. With the onset of globalisation, quality had become the key for any growth, he said. Standards in higher education were declining because of unplanned expansion. The resistance to change by stakeholders was the cause for dismal performance in the higher education sector, he said.

Students should develop multi-dimensional personality to increase the prospects of their career.

The stakeholders in higher education sector should work with commitment to improve the quality of students, Prof. Ahmed said.

Principal of the college S.K. Samuel welcomed the gathering. Coordinator of the conference Elizabeth Roy gave an overview of the entire programme.
