VELLORE: Vellore district was awarded the rolling shield instituted by the Anti-TB Association of Tamil Nadu for outstanding anti-tuberculosis work in the State for 2006 and 2007.

Raja Sivanandam, Deputy Director of Medical Services (TB), Vellore, received the award from M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Health Minister, at the 60th annual general body meeting of the association held at Cuddalore on Saturday. The award was formally given by C. Rajendran, Collector and president of Vellore District TB Association, at the Collectorate here on Monday. Dr. Sivanandam said that the award was given every year to the best-performing district based on various parameters.

The Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) targeted areas such as inauguration of TB Seals Sale Campaign with maximum sale of seals, conduct of promotional health educational activities such as observance of anti-TB week and World TB Day by disseminating information that focussed on free availability of diagnostic aids and quality drugs in all government health institutions and non-governmental organisations that have adopted RNTCP.
