Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (M.G.M.C.& R.I), the flagship institution of Sri Balaji Educational and Charitable Public Trust (S.B.E.C.T), Chaired by Sri M.K Rajagopalan, is a modern medical college and hospital located in puducherry (formerly known as Pondicherry), South India.

The campus is situated in a beautiful sylvan setting at Pillayarkuppam, 14 Kilometers from Puducherry City, near the town of Cuddalore. This tertiary care teaching hospital, better known as Architectural Wonder of Puducherry, is an imposing landmark on National Highway NH45A. It is a leading private sector medical centre in this area providing high standard Undergraduate and Post Graduate Medical Education.

The institution is recognised by the Medical Council of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Government of India,and the Government of Puducherry. M.G.M.C.R.I is affiliated to Pondicherry University. M.G.M.C.R.I has been recognised as a deemed university by university grants commission,New Delhi,on fourth august 2008.

In building this institution, Mr. M. K. Rajagopal, the young Chairman & K.KalyanaRaman. Chartered Accountant, (NRI-Bahrain), the Vice Chairman was assited by Prof. Rajaram Pagadala, an eminet medical teacher, an able admisitrator and an efficient clinician,as the first Director, CEO and Dean of the MGMC&RI. Prof. Rajaram had the expereince of having been the Dean of three other medical schools inclduing JIPMER in Pondicherry, College of Medical sciences, Bharatpur in Nepal and Alluri Sita Ramaraju Academy of Medical sciences (ASRAM) in Eluru in Andhrapradesh. He was decorated by the president of India as an Eminet Medical teacher of India and was awarded with Dr. B.C. Roy Award in 1993.

The first batch of this college started in 2002 April. Currently the 7th batch of students are about to take their first year examinations. Post graduate teaching began in April 2007. Its alumni Association came into existence on 16 August 2007 and is known as Mahathma Gandhi Medical College Fraternity(M.G.M.C Fraternity).

In addition, Kasthurba Gandhi Nursing College (K.G.N.C) and Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences( I.G.I.D.S) are housed within the same campus.
