It's the teachers' duty to instil values

VISAKHAPATNAM: Experts from teaching community gave suggestions to improve the quality of teaching and management of schools and urged the teachers not to forget values, at a two-day programme organised by the AP Private (un-aided) Schools Managements Association (APPUSMA) over the weekend.

Inaugurating the meet, Vice-Chancellor of AP State Law University Y. Satyanarayana said that more care should be taken while running a school than a college as a school should not only provide quality education but also instil moral values in the young minds.

He suggested to the managements to allot some seats to the poor children in addition to improve facilities in the schools.

Former V-C of Acharya Nagarjuna University V. Balamohan Das expressed his worry over falling standards in education and moral values and suggested several measures for improving the administration and teaching in schools.

Former professor of anthropology of AU K. Thimma Reddy said teacher is a learner always as he or she had to keep learning while teaching their pupils.

He wanted teachers to get acquainted with computer as e-teaching would play a major role in future.

Government could do little towards quality education and teachers must take care of the same, he felt.

A mathematics teacher from Chennai and teacher enrichment programme trainer V. Seshan wanted the teachers to adapt themselves to the changing society, teaching methods and other conditions.

President of district unit of APPUSMA A. Krishna Reddy said a students' enrichment programme would also be organised some time later.
'B. Ed. for engineers'

He said the association had succeeded in getting admission for engineering graduates in B.Ed. and was now trying to get the facility for MBBS holders too.

State president of the association V. Janardhan Reddy, State secretary S. Seshu Kumar, district secretary M.V. Rao, vice-president G. Narayana Rao, treasurer Srinivasa Rao, director of Universal Public School Narayana Rao and others spoke.

Teachers from north Andhra districts, Krishna, Nalgonda and Khammam participated in the two-day programme.
