ANU gets AICTE nod to set up engg. college

GUNTUR: Acharya Nagarjuna University on Thursday received the Letter of Approval from the All India Council for Technical Education for establishing a College of Engineering on the campus from the 2009-10 academic year.

University Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopal Reddy told The Hindu from New Delhi over phone that he collected the Letter of Approval from the AICTE on Thursday.

"As per the Supreme Court decision, university colleges do not require approval from the AICTE. But, ANU decided to go for the approval on its own so that students taking up M.Tech courses will get a stipend of Rs.8,000 and undergraduates will be assured of quality," Prof. Reddy said.
