Zinc Matrix Power unveiled its new zinc-silver battery pack technology at the Intel Developers Forum back in September this year, at which they also won an Intel's Technology Innovation Accelerated award. The company promises that its new silver-zinc batteries will be available to hardware manufacturers for evalutaion and testing in early 2007, and available for productions soon afterwards.

In light of the recent wave of laptop battery recalls, the good news is that the silver-zinc batteries are both safer and should last twice as long as their Lithium-Ion cousins. Another plus is that the new batteries are recyle-friendly because they don't contain any lithium or flammable materials.
