Chartered accountants' meet begins today

VIJAYAWADA: Nearly 15 speakers of national repute from Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad will share their knowledge, experience and expertise at a two-day national conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to be held here on Friday and Saturday.
Diamond jubilee year

The city branch of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of the ICAI is hosting the conference to mark the diamond jubilee year of the ICAI during 2008-09. The Perspective Planning Committee of the ICAI is organising the conference.

Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister K. Parthasarothy will inaugurate the conference at Sri Sesha Sai Kalyana Vedika, MG Road, at 9 a.m. There will be six technical sessions.

Disclosing the details of the national conference at a press conference here on Thursday, SIRC city chairman D. Durga Prasad, secretary P. Subbarayudu and conference director G.V.V. Satyanarayana said that nearly 500 chartered accountants already registered themselves as delegates for the conference.

This year's conference would focus on 'Emerging paradigm of accountancy profession: Issues and perspectives'. The speakers will touch up on the topics like direct and indirect taxes, accounting and assurance standards, accrual accounting in municipalities, information technology, international financial reporting standards, independent directors and so on. Chartered accountants Kishor B. Karia, Himanshu B. Kishandwala, T.V. Balasubramanian, P. Selva Murthy, Shantilal Daga and others will be the speakers in the technical sessions. The subjects that will figure in the technical sessions include 'enhancing audit quality', 'due diligence audit and mergers and acquisitions', 'need for accrual accounting', 'service tax and challenges and opportunities' and so on. The national conference was aimed at providing an opportunity to chartered accountants to share their experiences in the wake of rapid changes that the profession was undergoing as of now, Mr. Durga Prasad said.
