Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy, Thanjavur or SASTRA came into being in 1984. The college was earlier known as Shanmugha College of Engineering. SASTRA is a premier institution in terms of academic performance, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The institute is spread over 1.5 million square feet which houses more than 8000 students and 600 teaching faculty. The college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

SASTRA not only offers courses on Engineering and Science, but there are courses for Education, Management, and Arts besides the various Doctoral programmes. It contains state-of-the-art laboratories and a very large and well maintained library. The computer centre of SASTRA is also one of the best.

Ph.D Courses

Ph.D Courses that lead to a Doctoral Degree is provided in various disciplines. Candidates who wish to pursue a Ph.D Course can register themselves for either a full-time internal, a part- time internal or a part-time external course. Registration for Ph.D Courses for B.Tech. Graduates are also available.

Eligibility

Undergraduate Courses: To be eligible for the Undergraduate Programmes, a student must have passed the 10+2 (Intermediate) or equivalent level of examination successfully with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as compulsory subjects with either Chemistry/ Bio-technology/ Computer Science/ Biology.

It is to be noted that students with diploma in Engineering/ Technology are eligible for direct admission to the second year of the relevant B.Tech. Programme.

Postgraduate Courses: To be eligible for the Postgraduate Degree Course, a valid eligible Bachelor Degree in relevant discipline is required. The Bachelor Degree Courses have to be either accepted by the SASTRA University as equivalent to the degree examinations.

Ph.D Courses: To be eligible for the Ph.D Courses, the student must have completed their Master's Degree in the relevant discipline.

Admission

Undergraduate Courses: The student must have passed the 10+2 level of examination with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects with either Chemistry/ Bio-technology/ Computer Science/ Biology and recognized by any State Board/ Central Board or any other board which is accepted by the SASTRA University as equal to 10+2 examination. The student must have scored a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The admission to the B.Tech. Programme will be based on the marks secured by the student at the 10+2 level of examination.

Postgraduate Courses: For admissions to the Postgraduate Degree, the marks of the GATE will be taken into consideration. Preference will be given to GATE score holders.

For admission to MBA Programme, any recognized Bachelor's Degree Programme of minimum three years is valid.

For MCA Programme any Bachelor's Degree Programme that is recognized and is of three years duration with mathematics as a subject of study during the 10+2 level of examination. Candidates who have studied B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science, IT, Information Science or B.C.A with a minimum of 65% in major subjects will be admitted to the IInd year of the MCA.

Ph.D Courses: For admissions to the Ph.D Courses, a valid GATE score will be taken into consideration.
