Teachers fail to turn up on Day-1 of SSC evaluation

Not many teachers
turned up for SSC spot valuation which commenced in the state on Friday. With two camps running in Hyderabad, there
is a requirement of 800 teachers per session but less than 100 teachers turned up on the first day.

Officials of the directorate of government examinations said show cause memos were sent to absent teachers.
"Strict action will be taken if teachers do not attend to their duties from Saturday. They will be placed under suspension," director of government examinations, Pronoti Suhasini Kavuri told TOI.

Officials said that the some camps were kept open till 8 pm to make the absenting teachers sign in for duty.
On the first day, teachers were to be trained in valuing coded answer scripts. While coding was introduced only in two papers (Social Studies Paper I and II) in 2008, it was introduced in eight papers this year. The teachers who evaluate these papers need to undergo training.

"Ninety per cent of the teachers were deployed for election duties. They refused to come as they were sent to distant places on election duty. No leave was granted in between to compensate," a camp officer said. Various teachers unions had earlier complained about the 'meagre' payment for evaluation duty. While teachers get Rs 4 for valuation of each paper, the unions are demanding a minimum of Rs 11 per paper.

Due to the elections, the tentative dates for the release of results was postponed from May 20 to 25. "If teachers do not attend the camps the release of results will get further delayed," an official said.

Meanwhile, the election training for teachers in the districts which are going to the polls will also keep a large number of teachers from examination duty. The teachers will be relieved from evaluation duty on April 21, 22 and 23.
