408 to join IIM-C, IIM-B shortlists 376

KOLKATA/BANGALORE: A total 408 students will be joining the post-graduate programme at IIM Calcutta (IIM-C) in the 2009-11 session.

According to Subrata Mitra, prof-in-charge (admissions) at IIM-C: "The past academic performance had been given weightage when it came to interview shortlists for PGDCM (post-graduate diploma in computer-aided management) programme, but not so for PGDM (post-graduate diploma in management)."

He did not comment on whether there had been a significant rise in the number of girl students because Friday was a holiday at IIM-C and so, he did not have the stats at hand.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), on Friday, released the list of candidates for its 2009-11 Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP).

Of the shortlisted 376 candidates, 11 were offered seats under the overseas category and 81 have been wait-listed.

The student strength this year is expected to be around 350 for its flagship PGP course, up from 270 students last year. Around 300 candidates were selected for the 2008-10 batch.
