TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University will organise a career guidance fair, 'Catch 2009,' for medical and para-medical students in May, its Vice-Chancellor K. Meer Mustafa Hussain said.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Dr. Hussain said that as many as 100 reputed universities and educational institutions from various parts of the globe, including Britain, Australia and the Netherlands, would participate to be held at the university campus.

The fair would expose students to various job opportunities in foreign countries and also provide guidance on skill development programmes and higher education. "For instance, there has been a growing demand in foreign countries for young graduates qualified in nursing, but not all students were fully aware of certain additional qualifications, such as skill in spoken English and passing the ILTES that were required," Dr. Mustafa said.

Counselling sessions on medical and para-medical educational opportunities would also be organised for students who had appeared for the Plus-Two public examination held in March this year. "Students were not aware of the prospects of various para-medical courses including Physiotherapy, " he said. The university was also planning to tie-up with a few universities for introducing some programmes and the modalities were being worked out for signing Memorandum of Understanding with them, he said.
