Seek students help in data collection

HOSUR: Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam asked the district administration to seek the help of students of Standard IX and X in conducting surveys and collecting data in villages, during their holidays.

The district administration could use the data collected by them on per-capita income of the people, their literacy level, on water bodies and their status in respect of de-silting and interconnection of inlets and outlets, the core-competence and resources of the villages for taking up rural development projects in the villages and provide employment to the people, he said.

Mr. Kalam inaugurated a Virtual Contact Centre and Rural Business Hub of the FOSTeRA in Sanasandiram village, near Hosur, on Saturday.

He said the data collected by the students could be the basis for planning all development tasks in the district.

The aim of the district administration should be to outsource all its data-related work to the Rural Business Hub to provide employment to the rural youth, make the administration more transparent and also improve its efficiency.

For this purpose, he asked the district administration to provide the students with laptop and GPS facilities to upload the data.

Mr. Kalam asked the youth to strive to reduce the gap between the urban and the rural, and make available safe potable water and quality medical facilities to all.

Mr. Kalam said that e-governance was an opportunity to use technology for the betterment of the society.

He also answered the queries of the school students.

Collector V.K. Shanmugam welcomed the gathering.
