Singapore to bid for Central Asian projects

Singapore has worked out an informal agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ERBD) today to help the city state-based companies bid for development projects in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

International Enterprise (IE) Singapore penned the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ERBD for a wide range of projects in the transportation, oil and gas, water and sanitation as well as agricultural and food processing sectors.

EBRD would also use the pact to draw Singapore investment, capabilities and solution in its member countries.

An IE Singapore spokesman said the first project relates to consultancy work for an electric transport network in Kazakh city of Almaty.

IE Singapore, the island city's trade promotion agency, has also pledged to Euro 300,000 as a technical cooperation fund through the ERBD for the Almaty project, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the move was part of IE Singapore's strategy to export local expertise in global markets.
