Diploma-holding staff seek promotion as junior engineers

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Diploma Technical Employees Federation has urged the State Government to promote engineering diploma holders among the technical staff in the State Transport Corporations as junior engineers.

A meeting of the federation held here on Sunday, adopted a resolution said the Supreme Court has recently held that diploma holders should be treated on par with engineering graduates for promotions. However, there was a move to recruit about 250 engineering graduates for the State Transport Corporations.

The State government should give up the move and instead promote diploma holding technical staff in the corporations.

There were nearly 500 diploma holders among the technical employees in the corporations languishing without promotions for over 19 years owing to a government rules that were framed about 40 years back.

The federation has already made representations to the Transport Secretary and the Transport Minister, the resolution said.
