Digital medium makes learning interesting

MYSORE: De Paul International Residential School (DPIRS) near Mysore has introduced 'Smart Class', a digital initiative in teaching and learning concepts.

The classrooms of first to 10th standards at the school have become interactive and are giving new dimension to classroom teaching with student-centric focus.

"The feedback in one year of its introduction has been excellent. Learning through Smart Class digital initiative has been an enjoyable experience for our students. Importantly, it is helping teachers empower new skills in teaching, thus benefiting the students to improve their productivity," says DPIRS Principal Jose Aikara.

The Smart Class programme has been implemented in the school by Educomp, a digital content education company. A trained programme administrator had been deployed at the school for technical and training support for teachers.

The existing classrooms at the school are converted into technology-enabled smart classrooms equipped with Smart Class Interactive Digiboard systems, which is connected to a PC that is networked to a dedicated "Smart Class Knowledge Centre" on the school campus.

The teachers' computers in all Smart Class rooms are connected to a dedicated server installed in the knowledge centre through a campus-wide network. A Smart Class application engine allows teachers to view and map relevant digital content for their classroom sessions as per their time tables and syllabuses, according to Educomp. Teachers use the digital resources such as animations, video clips and simulated models as a part of their classroom period to teach the specific topics in Smart Class rooms, enabling a multi-sensory learning experience for children. The repository of curriculum-based digital content developed and aggregated by Educomp is made available to teachers for use in smart class rooms.
