CHENNAI: An online test series for students taking the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) this year was launched here on Monday.

An initiative of AIMS Education, in association with The Hindu Education Plus, the 'AIEEE Admission Online Test Series' is aimed at helping students practise, and gain confidence and speed ahead of the actual examination, which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Students who take the tests online would be provided with instant scores, daily assessment and also be told where they stand in relation to their counterparts across the country.

Launching the series, author Chetan Bhagat said the phase of taking entrance examinations was stressful, and in fact, "more stressful than writing books." Since students would get to know their absolute scores and relative performance via ranks, it would help them improve with practice. "Besides being innovative, this is also a very democratic tool, where the basic requirement is access to the internet," he added.

Director of AIMS Education Gita Prabhu said students taking the tests would be able to participate in online discussions on the paper with experts, where they could also raise doubts and other questions they may have, to have them answered via e-mail.

Senior Principal of D.A.V. Boys Senior Secondary School C. Satish said every year several lakh students took the AIEEE, that determined admissions to the National Institutes of Technology and many deemed universities. Even the best of students may lose out sometimes, due to lack of speed or accuracy. Such a test series online would help build confidence in them, he added.

Interested candidates could visit www.aimseducation.com to register. The fee for the series, which includes 10 tests and one full-length examination, is Rs.2,499. A registered student can take one test everyday from April 14 to 24. While daily scores can be obtained instantly, students would also get to know their national rank the following day.
