The manner in which you apply for a job can largely effect your fate and whether or not you get the job. Of course, your qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience are the major factors that contribute in you being short listed and finally getting selected.

When you place an application for a job, you are introducing yourself to the prospective employer for the very first time. Hence, it is imperative to do it right as you will never get a second chance to prove your worth and make a positive impression. You application for the job is what represents and reflects your skills, knowledge, experience and shows your ability to do justice to the job on offer.

Here are some do's and don'ts to be kept in mind while applying for a job

Write a concise and impressive covering letter that briefly highlights your skills and intent to work with the employer.

Make sure that your application is typed neatly (hand written - only if it is demanded) and proof read to avoid any typos or grammatical errors.

Keep your resume / bio data / CV current and updated.

Maintain consistency in style and format.

Be careful not to make any mistakes while addressing the letter. Address it and send it to the right person.

Avoid folding the letter and CV multiple times as it looks untidy and unkempt.

Completing An Application Form

You may be required to fill in an Application form that has been put together by the prospective employer in a standardized format. Sometimes, such forms can be quite lengthy and detailed.

When asked to fill in a Job Application Form, it is your responsibility to complete the form carefully without making any mistakes.

Here are some simple tips which can help you in completing a Job Application Form properly -

Read the document several times.

Keep your CV handy while filling in details.

Mention the correct address and contact details without making any errors in spellings etc.

List your work experience / jobs held in the right order.

Sign the declaration at the end only after your have gone through all your entries and made sure that every info mentioned is correct.
