TIRUCHI: For 30 meritorious Plus Two students in Tiruchi district, securing State ranks is being made achievable by the school education department through a novel approach.

Students who had scored over 1,100 out of 1,200 in the half-yearly examinations have been identified for appearance in a mock public examination it has organised. With the question papers, answer sheets, set up of examination hall, invigilation and the system of valuation in place, students are being exposed to a real-time situation. Students expect the mock examinations to be more effective than the revision tests since they receive subject-wise individual attention of experienced teachers.

"The objective is to familiarise students with the examination environment and help them shed fear and make their actual abilities surface without any hindrance at the time of public examinations. More importantly, students are sensitised to the scoring strategies on an individual basis after the examination in each subject," Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan told The Hindu.

Two series of mock examinations, the second after the practical examinations, will be completed for students in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Tamil. Alongside preparation, the level of confidence is also of utmost importance for students to achieve top scores, said Christopher Premkumar, Headmaster of Somarasanpettai Government Higher Secondary School, one of the examination coordinators.

For languages also
"Equal importance is accorded to languages also since the marks in these subjects are being considered for overall ranking. High scores in language papers will put the students in the reckoning of subject-wise State ranks as well," he explained, adding that the strategy will be replicated for X standard students also.
