Obesity is a most common problem today. Millions of people around the globe are facing this problem. It is caused mainly due to unhealthy eating habits. This makes one lazy and his self esteem goes down. The body becomes weak and susceptible to many common ailments, like of the bones of buttocks and knees. The person may also have brittle bones & osteoarthritis. Overweight people are also at an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and other illnesses like diabetics. Due to the fat collecting on the belly, these people may also suffer from hernia.

Weight loss occurs when an individual burns more calories than he takes in. This fact is well observable when one is laid up with fever.

The process of weight loss cannot be accomplished by a single step or procedure. It may be different for different persons. Therefore for a healthy weight loss, one has to consult a physician who could give a weight loss plan tailored to ones needs.

Some of the techniques which are commonly employed for weight loss are aerobic training, cross training (two different sets of exercises are done alternatively each day), resistance training, frequent meals (small) of high quantity protein & carbohydrates and low fat content (avoid a lot of junk food, white flour, refined sugar, oil etc.) Eat lots of fresh fruits, materials with high fiber content like green leafy vegetables and drink lot of water.

Another more interesting way of weight loss is the practice of yoga. Certain yoga postures with meditation can make you lose weight very easily. Yoga has many other heath benefits too like it will boost up your immune system if practiced on a regular basis. It also helps you improve your concentration power and handle your stress better. Your self esteem will also be raised and on the whole you will enjoy an inner peace of well being.

Another practice which yields similar results is called Tai Chi. It is a slow motion dance form of kungfu. It has originated in china and is now practiced in almost every country of the world. It basically deals with the channelising of energy flow (chi) in the body. With regular practice one can achieve considerable weight loss and can be in better control of oneself.
