With a view to ushering in e-governance, Bharathidasan University has called upon all affiliated colleges to submit e-mail ids by December 31 for future correspondence.

Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko favours creation of an e-group of principals so that information could reach them through mail. At a meeting with principals of affiliated colleges on Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor exhorted college managements to provide the principals with Blackberry handsets so that they could fine-tune their administration through seamless Internet connectivity.

He advised principals of Government colleges to communicate to the authorities concerned about obtaining the multi-purpose handset.

The colleges have also been asked to create websites with weblink to the university website. Contents for two to three semesters of M.A. Tamil and M.Phil Tamil have already been put on the web.

With the funding of Rs. 30 lakh provided by the Distance Education Council, enough web resources would be created to offer MBA and MCA as online programmes from April 2009, he said, adding that the Department of Educational Technology had been entrusted with the task of helping other university departments to develop web content.
