Lenovo server market

LENOVO HAS UPPED its game by finally stepping into the server market with the launch of the Thinkserver range.
The new line of towers and rack units is aimed at small and medium businesses by being specifically designed to be easily installed and managed. The entire family also includes management software and a 90-day trial of Thinkplus Priority Support to help businesses get over the inevitable bumps during the install.

Kicking off the range, Lenovo has unveiled three towers and two rack x86 servers, with the option of running either Microsoft Windows Server or Suse Linux Enterprise Server. For small businesses that need simple applications such as email, messaging or a web server, Lenovo has the TS100 Tower and RS110 Rack servers, which are powered by Intel Core 2 Duo or Xeon 3000 or 3200 processors.

Bigger companies that need to run databases or may start wanting to consider virtualisation have the option of the TD100 Tower, TD100x Tower or RD120 rack servers which run on Intel Xeon 3000 or 5000 processors.
"Lenovo is now delivering a full suite of product offerings for small and medium businesses from desktops to notebooks to servers," boasted Marc Godin, vice president and general manager of the Enterprise Business Unit at Lenovo.

There is no official word yet on the pricing or availability of any of these, but be sure to keep an eye out as we're assured they aren't far away.Although there is no indication of it yet, this move does beg the question of whether we'll see a repeat performance of the notebook market where Lenovo will slowly take over from IBM, freeing Big Blue from the hardware arena completely
