What is hpboid.exe?

Hpboid.exe is a program developed and distributed by Hewlett Packard, this program is a Status Serve. The program gets installed by the drivers that are used by many of the laser printers that are produced for business use by Hewlett Packard. Hpboid.exe is a component of the Enterprise Configuration Agent technology created by Hewlett Packard, this technology is supposed to make it much easier to use these printers and additional components. The process entails the printer being queried by the printer drivers, regardless of whether the connection is local or network, the drivers will then automatically show the physical configuration of the printer in the screens for this. Any time a new component or piece, such as a envelope feeder or other accessory, is attached to the printer, the drivers will sent a query to the printer, and then these drivers will show the fact that an accessory has been added.

The file for hpboid.exe can be found in the folder C:\Windows\System32 or a subfolder, and sometimes malware programs like viruses or spyware may run in the background masquerading as this program. The size of the file for the legitimate program hpboid.exe should be either 61440 bytes or 73728 bytes on a PC running Windows XP or Vista. This file is not a Windows System file, but it is deemed trustworthy by Microsoft.

The first versions of hpboid.exe had some serious problems. There were many cases where hpboid.exe caused many unnecessary tasks, and this would eat up the resources of the PC, sometimes using as much as eighty to one hundred percent of the CPU usage, so there were no resources left for other programs. This led to computer slowdown and poor speed and performance. Hewlett Packard released driver updates to resolve these issues, and this did fix many of the cases. There are still some PCs that may have a difficult time using this program because of resources being used unnecessarily.

Hpboid.exe is a program that is used with some Hewlett Packard business printers, and it is not a required file for the operating system. If problems are experienced with this program, simply remove it by uninstalling it, and there should be no further problems. This may make it impossible to use the printer though, so the first step to resolving any issues with the file hpboid.exe is to make sure that all driver updates are installed and the printer drivers are completely current and updated.
