National Education Day on Nov. 11

The Government of India will observe November 11 as National Education Day. This will be in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Union Minister of Education.

According to a communication from Chairman of the University Grants Commission Sukhdeo Thorat to the vice-chancellors, a function to mark the day will be held at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

President Pratibha Patil will be the chief guest and Union Minister of Human Resource Development Arjun Singh will preside. A conference of vice-chancellors will follow the function.

"The conference will deliberate upon issues like the role of vice-chancellors in successful implementation of the XI Five Year Plan, the Chadha Committee on UGC Pay Review, etc.," Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam said.

Officials from the UGC, Higher Education Department, and All India Council for Technical Education would address the participants.
