The task of building the Indian companies of the future will lie mostly in the hands of y

oung people who are still management students today. This week, the Madras Management Association is gathering 3000 of these students from across the country for a mega student convention.

Begun in 2002, the Management Students' Convention showcases the untapped management talent of students to industry and provides a forum for institutes to benchmark themselves against the best, says the MMA. Students are involved in organizing the Convention, which is meant to be "of the students, by the students and for the students", in order to inculcate management skills. It also provides an opportunity for students to learn from practising management professionals and thought leaders.

The Convention provides students a platform to showcase their managerial acumen through various competitions. Three competitions being conducted as a prelude to the Convention are paper presentations on the theme of Building Brand India, business plan competitions on a commercially viable business idea of their choice and a management debate.

The preliminary round of these competitions were held on September 18 at MMA House. All qualifying teams will make presentations on stage at the Convention on September 26 and 27 before a panel of judges. A total of Rs.1.5 lakh will be awarded as prize money for winners of the various competitions.

The Convention itself will be held in collaboration with the University of Madras on September 26 and 27 at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium.
