Sales: $3.2 bn

Philippine Long Distance Telephone or PLDT nationalised under Ferdinand Marcos and was again privatised in 1995, has a fixed-line business, however the company gets two-thirds of its revenues and profits are from cellphone service. Hong Kong's First Pacific, part of Indonesia's Salim group, took a controlling stake in PLDT in 1999 and owns 26 per cent. Japan's NTT Docomo owns another 14 per cent.
