Infosys starts 2nd Hyderabad centre

HYDERABAD: IT bellwether Infosys announced commencement of work on its second campus at Pocharam here; spread over 447 acres with a total investment of Rs 1,250 crores.

The ground breaking ceremony of the Infosys SEZ campus was held at Pocharam village in the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district.

After the ceremony, Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies Limited N R Narayana Murthy told reporters that the Andhra Pradesh government has worked towards enhancement of infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad to make it a premier IT destination.

"We are encouraged by this development and the support provided to Infosys," he said.

The Infosys campus at Pocharam is expected to seat over 25,000 employees and will be completed over a period of 10 years and will be developed in three phases.

Work is commencing on the first phase, scheduled to be completed in over three-year period, with a seating capacity of 10,000 employees with an initial investment of Rs 600 crore, he said.

As part of its drive to become carbon neutral, Infosys is designing this campus on best-in-class sustainability principles to achieve energy efficiency, water sustainability, preservation and promotion of biodiversity and effective waste management, Murthy said.

An investment of Rs 522 crore has been made in the existing campus of Infosys at Gachibowli till June 30 this year which has been operational since 2001, he said.

Hyderabad campus exported IT products worth Rs 2,279 crore and contributed 8.7 per cent to the total state exports in the financial year 2007-2008, Murthy said.
