Students going abroad for higher studies can avail themselves of special discounts, including extra baggage and lower fares.

Many airlines provide these concessions, especially between July-end and the middle of September.

The one-and-a-half month period is the peak time for students wanting to join universities, especially in the U.S., the UK and Australia, K. Venkataraman, director, Diana World Travels, says.

"This is the time of maximum business for airlines from students. After this period, we depend on tourists and corporates."
