31 Students to Get Degrees in Arabic Studies

MANGALORE

The 29th "Sanad" ceremony (convocation) of the Seyyid Madani Arabic College will be held at Ullal on Wednesday. In all, 31 scholars, who have completed their five-year course in Arabic Studies, will be conferred the "Maulvi Fazil Madani" degree on the day, president of Seyyid Madani Darga Committee U.K. Monu has said. The committee manages the college through Seyyid Madani Arabic Education Trust.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Monu said more than 4,600 scholars had obtained degrees from the Arabic College, which was initially started as 'dars' in 1917 to impart Arabic education. The 'dars' was converted into an Arabic College in 1971.

The committee had taken the initiative to introduce Kannada as medium of instruction for Arabic education, doing away with the Malayalam-medium being followed hitherto.
