No flight operations at Mumbai airport till 7 pm as Cyclone Nisarga hits city

umbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) issued a statement on Wednesday about flight operations on May 3. As per the statement, no flight will either take off or land at the Mumbai airport between 2:30 PM and 7 PM.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) had stated that eight arrivals and 11 departures were scheduled from the airport on May 3. "All necessary safety measures have been put into place," the spokesperson had added.

Since domestic flight operations resumed on May 25, the CSMIA has been handling close to 50 flights each day.

Cyclone Nisarga is moving towards the city of Mumbai after making landfall in Alibag. As a precautionary measure, section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the city. Teams of NDRF have also been deployed in Mumbai, Raigad, Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a statement on Wednesday said that the landfall process of cyclone Nisarga will take nearly three hours. At the time of the landfall in Alibag, authorities recorded wind speed of 120-140 kmph. Officials with the IMD also issued a red alert for seven coastal districts in Maharashtra where emergency services have been kept on standby.
