Education loan for students from naxal-affected villages

DHARMAPURI: The Government is extending education loan subsidy to students from naxal-affected villages in Dharmapuri district during the academic year 2008-09.A release said students who had already availed themselves of the education loan were also eligible to apply for the subsidy.Those who wanted the subsidy could approach the District Social and Economically Backward People Development Scheme Officer at the District Rural Development Agency at the Collectorate. They should be from a village that had been declared as naxal-affected by the government. The annual income of the student's family should not exceed Rs. 50,000.

The student should be the first person in the family to pursue medical, engineering, B.Com, or B.Ed, and a certificate in this connection from the Tahsildhar was a must.Twenty per cent on loan amount or Rs. 25,000 whichever was less would be given as subsidy, the release said.
