The Karnataka State Women's University has approved the proposal by Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha to start three postgraduate colleges in Gulbarga city from next academic year.

The president of the sangha and Peetathipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan, Poojya Sharanabasavappa Appa, addressing a press conference here on Saturday, said the university had given its approval to start Muktambika Women's College (MBA), Komalatai Women's College (M.Sc., computer science) and Godutai Women's College (M.Ed.).

Dr. Appa said apart from this, three engineering colleges, including one exclusively for women, would also start functioning from the next academic year. While the Godutai Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women would be established in Gulbarga city, the Veerappa Nisty Institute of Engineering and Technology would be set up in the historic city of Surpur in Gulbarga district, and the Lingaraj Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology would be started in Bidar.

He said the building for the Godutai Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women was available, and appointment of staff had begun. Ten acres of land worth Rs. 1 crore had been donated by Nisty family for the construction of the Veerappa Nisty Institute of Engineering and Technology, and construction would begin shortly.
Three branches

Dr. Appa said the three engineering colleges would have only three branches — electronics and communication, information technology and computer science — to begin with, and new branches would be added later. While the engineering college for women would have an intake of 90 students per branch, the other two colleges would have fewer seats.

Inspection:The proposal for starting the three engineering colleges has already been submitted to Visvesvaraya Technological University. A team from VTU is expected to arrive soon to inspect the facilities.
