BSNL Launches Three Prepaid Plans Under Rs. 20 With Up To 2GB Data

The State-run telecom operator BSNL has been getting a positive approach of late as it offers relatively cheaper prepaid recharge plans as compared to rivals. It started getting the love from users soon after other telecom operators such as Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Jio increased their prepaid tariff late last year.

Adding to this, BSNL also offers extended validity and data benefits to its subscribers. In terms of comparison, the private operators cut down benefits in select circles. Following this, there are reports that customers are porting to BSNL in large numbers in various circles. Now, BSNL has introduced three low-cost plans priced under Rs. 20. Let's take a look at these newly launched prepaid plans from here.

The three new prepaid plans from BSNL offer up to 2GB of additional data. These plans will come to help when the existing prepaid plan's daily data limit is exhausted. These are data vouchers priced at Rs. 13, Rs. 16, and Rs. 19. Notably, these plans offer up to 2GB of data and a validity of 1 day. As emergency vouchers, these will offer only 3G internet speeds in all circles.

The BSNL Rs. 13 prepaid plan bundles 2GB of data for browsing the net, streaming videos and more and offer a validity of 1 day besides the additional data benefit. The Rs. 16 prepaid plan offers 2GB of data and one day of validity but is available only in select circles. The last prepaid voucher is priced at Rs. 19 and offers 2GB of high-speed 3G data and has a 1 day. None of these plans offer voice and SMS benefits.

Given that mobile data is highly used these days and internet connectivity is significant, it can get quite frustrating to run out of data. So, if you have exhausted the data benefit of your existing plan, then you can recharge to any of these data vouchers priced under Rs. 20 to use it on top of your existing plan when you run out of data. If you are low on data or have run out of daily data limit on your existing plan, then you can check for these mini data recharge plans to get 2GB of extra data for a day.

Making it more attractive to users opting for BSNL, the telco is also offering free data benefits to those who make the switch. Last month, BSNL announced additional offers for subscribers who use their annual prepaid plan of Rs. 2,399. Those who subscribe to this plan will get an additional validity of 90 days.

Notably, this offer was slated to end on January 15 but the telco seems to have continued this offer. Going by this offer, the Rs. 2,399 prepaid plan that usually offers 365 days of validity will come with an extended validity of 90 days, which totals 455 days of validity without spending any additional amount. So, you can continue to get this additional data benefit until the telco puts an end to it.

Microsoft Adds Five New Features To Teams; Big Help For Frontline Workers

Microsoft Teams is getting five new features aimed at helping frontline employees cope with stress. Walkie Talkie app, organizing virtual appointments, Microsoft Viva, Reflexis Shifts Connector, and audio notice for the misplaced device are among the new features.

For the Walkie Talkie app in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft has collaborated with Zebra mobile devices, but it will also be accessible for other cellphones. It could be easy for the company's entire team to stay up to speed on necessary and recommended training as per the Microsoft Viva learning app.

Microsoft said in a blog post that Microsoft Teams will now include five new features to help frontline workers cope with stress. According to the latest Work Trend Index from the American IT giant, 88 percent of frontline workers are "excited about job chances created by technology."

The Walkie Talkie app is the most important of the five new technologies introduced. Zebra's new app will be available on a variety of mobile devices. The push-to-talk (PTT) button on Zebra mobile devices uses Microsoft Teams' digital Walkie Talkie capabilities to empower frontline employees with clear, quick, and secure communication. On the other hand, the Walkie Talkie app will be available on Android and iOS devices as well as on Zebra mobile devices.

The second feature offered by Microsoft is the ability to manage virtual appointments. Workers will be able to "manage and request approvals in their business using Power Apps component framework (PCF) controls" with this capability. Frontline workers will be able to see a holistic view of virtual appointments as well as real-time data on wait times, queueing, missed appointments, and staffing delays due to this functionality.

The third upgrade is to the Microsoft Viva app, which allows employees to find, access, share, and track learning content from Microsoft Teams. The Viva learning app has unveiled major collaborations with EdCast and OpenSesame, which will give employees access to a wealth of information to help them upskill and train.

The fourth new feature for Microsoft Teams is Reflexis Shift Connector, which connects to Reflexis Workforce Scheduler (RWS) to create a "seamless, real-time sync for viewing, allocating, and monitoring shift requests." RWS is stated to help with worker autonomy, optimize scheduling, and provide frontline workers with access to their schedules when used in conjunction with Microsoft Teams.

Furthermore, Microsoft Teams will now send out a notification when a device is misplaced. The IT department will be able to send out an audio alert that will assist frontline staff in quickly locating the missing device. Moreover, frontline employees will be able to sign out all relevant apps with a single tap on Android smartphones to make the devices ready for the next worker.

Samsung Exynos 2200 Announced: Coming To Galaxy S22 Series Of Smartphones

After multiple delays, Samsung has finally launched its most powerful mobile processor -- the Exynos 2200. This is the first smartphone SoC to feature a custom AMD RDNA2 architecture-based GPU known as Xclipse GPU and here are the details on the all-new Exynos 2200, powering the upcoming Galaxy S22 series of smartphones in select markets.

The Exynos 2200 is fabbed using cutting-edge 4nm fabrication, similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and the Dimensity 2000 SoC. This makes this processor energy-efficient in comparison to the Exynos 1200, the predecessor of the Exynos 2200.

Samsung has put a lot of emphasis on the GPU of the Exynos 2200, which is custom designed in collaboration with AMD. The word Xclipse brings the "X" which stands for Exynos and eclipse, indicating the start of a new chapter in the mobile gaming era. The Xclipse 920 GPU offers features like hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS), which were limited to PCs and consoles.

To improve the overall performance and energy efficiency, the Exynos 2200 also includes technologies like multi-IP governor (AMIGO). As the Exynos 2200 is an SoC, it is not just a GPU, and it does have an octa-core CPU setup along with a custom 5G modem, custom ISP, and more. There is also a custom AI engine with Dual-core NPU and DSP.

Coming to the CPU aspect of the Exynos 2200, the processor has eight CPU cores with a single primary high-performance core based on the ARM Cortex-X2 microarchitecture. Then there are three performance cores based on ARM Cortex-A710 microarchitecture, and four efficient cores based on ARM Cortex-A510 microarchitecture. This CPU design is similar to what we have seen on the Dimensity 2000 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen1.

The custom IPS on the Exynos 2200 is now capable of capturing and processing up to 200MP images in the single-camera mode. Similarly, it also supports 108MP image capture or a dual-camera setup with a 64MP primary camera and a 32MP secondary camera. As per the videos, the Exynos 2200 can encode and decode 4K HDR videos and 8K videos with up to 60fps.

Coming to the display support, the Exynos 2200 can power a 4K display with up to 120Hz refresh rate or a 2K display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports LPDDR5 type RAM and UFS 3.1 type storage for faster memory access. Samsung has confirmed that the Exynos 2200 is already in the production line. We believe that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of smartphones will be the first to feature Exynos 2200.

In terms of features and specifications, the Exynos 2200 is on par with the competition. The GPU seems to be the highlighting factor of this SoC. However, we should get a clear idea of the capabilities of the Exynos 2200 once we start getting phones with this processor. Like every year, India will definitely receive the Exynos 2200 powered Galaxy S22, while the markets like the US will get Snapdragon 8 Gen1 powered Galaxy S22.

Last month, a report revealed that the Samsung Galaxy A53 production in India has begun at the Samsung's Greater Noida factory.

The possible design and features were also leaked online. Besides, the device was recently spotted on the BIS listing. Now, the Galaxy A53 5G has been spotted on the 3C certification website.

In terms of design, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is said to share a similar design as the Galaxy A52. The back panel will have a flat design and a rectangular module that will house a quad-camera setup along with an LED flash. Upfront, the Galaxy A53 5G will sport a punch-hole cutout to house the front-facing camera sensor. The USB Type-C port and the speaker grille will be placed on the bottom edge.

It is also said to skip a 3.5mm headphone jack. Coming to the features, the device is tipped to feature an AMOLED panel that will support a 120Hz refresh rate. Other features are expected to include an in-display fingerprint sensor, a 5,000 mAh battery unit, and so on.

iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max Features Tipped Again; Pill-Shaped Hole-Punch Cutout Expected

iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max have resurfaced with the rumored pill-shaped hole-punch cutout render on the internet. The rendering depicts a two-hole design that Apple claims to be unique. A developer called Jeff Grossman shared an image of the iPhone 14 Pro prototype with a pill-shaped hole-punch cutout a few days ago, prompting this development. According to many reports, Apple will deploy a hole-punch display, with Face ID technology relocated beneath the panel.

The pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will have two holes, according to the renders given by Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and will "not be similar to all the pill models from Huawei."

An iPhone 14 Pro mockup recently revealed a pill-shaped notch, although only one lens was visible. Both hole-punch cutouts will be visible on the iPhone 14 models, according to Young. Last week, tipster LeaksApplePro said that the iPhone 14 will start at $799 (approximately Rs. 59,000), that the iPhone 14 Max will start at $899 (about Rs. 66,400), that the iPhone 14 Pro will start at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 81,200), and that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will cost at least $1,199. (roughly Rs. 88,600).

This, according to the source, is attributable to rising production expenses. He also claims that "the difference between the [iPhone 14 Max and the iPhone 14 Pro needs to be more than $100."Mark Gurman, an Apple expert, also stated on his podcast 'Power On' that he believes Apple will eliminate the notch on some devices in 2022.

According to a tip, the iPhone 14 Pro would cost $100 (approximately Rs. 7,400) more than the iPhone 13 Pro. It also claims that due to increased production expenses, the price gap between the upcoming iPhone 14 Max model and the iPhone 14 Pro might be more than $100.The tipster also claims that production costs are rising, and that "the gap between the iPhone 14 Max and the iPhone 14 Pro has to be more than $100."

Apple's iPad Pro 2022 To Get Magsafe Wireless Charging Functionality; Other Features To Check Out

Apple is set to release a slew of new products this year, including the Mac Pro, iMac Pro, and the Mac mini. According to the rumors, the company would also release a revamped MacBook Air and an entry-level MacBook Pro.

The tech giant may possibly release an iPad Pro model with wireless charging and a new external monitor. Mark Gurman reported in his 'Power On' newsletter that the Apple iPad Pro 2022 model could have a redesigned design and wireless charging functionality.

Apple is experimenting with MagSafe charging technology for the upcoming iPad Pro. It is a magnetic environment-based wireless charging method. This technology was first introduced by Apple with the iPhone 12. According to the source, Apple may add reverse wireless charging in the upcoming iPad Pro, allowing the iPad to function as a wireless charging point on its own. According to 9to5mac, "the business is exploring a similar MagSafe solution for the iPad Pro." Wireless charging will most likely be slower than connecting a charger directly into the iPad's Thunderbolt connector, which will continue in future versions."

Along with providing the rear of the iPad Pro a glass body, it is reported that Apple is now moving away from the aluminum body seen on the iPhone. With the iPhone, the firm has progressively begun to provide a glass body on the rear. According to reports, Apple is exploring a wireless charging technology similar to MagSafe for the iPad Pro 2022, which will be slower than wired charging.

According to the report, it is too early to predict Apple's new iPad Pro's development, which indicates that these features can be avoided even before the final resale.   According to the company's plans for the iPod Mini, a narrow screen border can be provided, and the home button can be removed. Apple last updated the iPod Mini in 2019, when it added an A12 Bionic chipset and compatibility for the first-generation Apple Pencil. Unlike other models, the Mini features large bezels around the display.

For the new generation iPad Pro and iPad Mini, Apple is reportedly working on a slimmer version of the iPad Pro and the iPad Mini, termed as the entry-level iPad for students. Simultaneously, the normal iPad mini may be released with the iPad Mini by the end of this year.

Every iPhone 14 Model To Feature 120Hz Refresh Rate Display

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max are currently the only iPhone models which support a 120Hz refresh rate display. This will change this year, as all four models of the iPhone 14 series of smartphones will feature a 120Hz LTPO OLED display with FHD+ resolution.

Apple will announce the iPhone 14 series of smartphones in the third quarter of 2022. The series will consist of four smartphones -- the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Due to the lackluster sale figures of the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 13 mini, the company is said to discontinue the iPhone 14 mini.

According to a research note by Jeff Pu, Apple will offer identical display and memory configurations on both Pro and non-Pro iPhone 14 models. This means the differentiating factors between the two will be limited to the build quality and the camera setup.

If we look at the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini, the devices come with just 4GB RAM. Similarly, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max offer 6GB of RAM. Jeff Pu also suggests that all the variants of the iPhone 14 series of smartphones will feature 6GB of RAM. Do note that, an earlier report suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max might offer 8GB RAM. However, this is not happening due to supply-chain issues.

There are a few things that do not make any sense. Jeff Pu claims that the base variant of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will offer 256GB of internal storage. However, he also claims that the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max will offer 64GB storage on the base variant.

Given the base model of the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 13 offers 128GB of internal storage, it is difficult to believe the fact that Apple will go back to offering just 64GB. Hence, take this entire prediction with a grain of salt.

OnePlus 11 Pro Could Feature Rotating Camera Module: Here Is The Proof

As we currently await the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro, the latest flagship smartphone in India, the company might already be working on its successor. Most brands start working on a device at least 48 months before the official launch, and we already have some details regarding the successor of the OnePlus 10 Pro.

The successor to the OnePlus 10 Pro is likely to be called the OnePlus 11 Pro. LetsGoDigital has now found a new patent filed by OnePlus, which indicates the possible camera design of the next flagship smartphone from OnePlus -- the OnePlus 10 Pro.

The new technology replaces multiple camera sensors and features a single big camera sensor with support for a 180-degree rotation. This patent was submitted to World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in 2020 and here are a few details regarding the same.

The OnePlus 11 Pro could be the first smartphone to incorporate this new camera module. The camera system is said to use magnets, which allow the users to rotate the lens. This idea is likely to mimic the technology featured on digital cameras with a tilt display. On top of that, the rotating camera might also feature improved video recording capability.

Due to the sheer size of the camera module, an OnePlus smartphone with this technology might feature a massive image sensor, which should improve low-light photography and videography. It is also expected to offer an improved stabilization technology. It is said that the stabilization technology on this camera module could be similar to Apple's sensor-shift OIS technology, featured on the iPhone 13 series of smartphones.

As this technology removes the dedicated ultrawide angle and telephotos lens, a single lens should be able to offer all those features with support for physical or optical zooming capability. The usage of the same sensor will result in the same high-quality pictures on all modes.

Do note that brands like OnePlus register several patents every year. However, only a handful of these will make their way to real-world products. There is a high chance that OnePlus might just showcase this technology on a prototype, and the OnePlus 11 Pro could just come with a normal camera setup, similar to the OnePlus 10 Pro.

Google Pixel Notepad Could Be Company's First Foldable Smartphone

Google is tipped to be working on a foldable smartphone for quite some time and we have come across various leaks related to this upcoming smartphone. The previous leaks and speculations that showed the upcoming offering from the tech giant referred to the device as Google Pixel Fold. Now, a report has revealed the possible name and its alleged pricing as well.

As per a new report by 9to5Google, the first foldable smartphone from the stable of Google could be dubbed Google Pixel Notepad instead of its previous moniker - Google Pixel Fold. The citing a source familiar with the development has stated that the Google Pixel Notepad is the working name of the upcoming foldable smartphone. Also, it stated that the company considered Google Pixel Longbook but then proceeded with Notepad.

Though the name has been tipped now, there is a possibility that this could change before its commercial launch. Usually, Google has a number in the name of the smartphone. This time, it appears to have removed the same due to the foldable form factor, which is an experiment from Google and a different one from the devices in its portfolio. Having said that, we can expect the upcoming model to miss out on a number.

What's interesting is that the development of the Google Pixel Notepad name has come just days after it was revealed via the animations in the Android 12L build. Going by the same, it looks like the Google Pixel Notepad and Oppo Find N could be similar in terms of looks. Also, these might not resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series smartphones due to the wider screen on unfolding.

From the existing leaks and speculations, the Google Pixel Notepad could make use of the company's own Tensor (GS101) chipset, which is teamed up with a maximum of 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB storage space. On comparing it with the Pixel 6 smartphone, the device is claimed to house a downgraded camera arrangement.

Besides speculating its name, the Google Pixel Notepad is tipped to cost relatively lesser than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. It is tipped to be priced at $1,799 (approx. Rs. 1,33,555). It is quite interesting to see this development given it is the first-of-its-kind smartphone.

Tecno Introduces Telescopic Macro Lens For Its Future Flagship Phones

Smartphone camera is one of the key elements, which keeps getting upgraded with every new generation. With 108MP cameras and a 200x zooming lens, mobile photography has come a long way. The latest innovation comes from Tecno, which has unveiled a new telescopic macro lens that can extend from the phone's body.

The result is improved quality of the macro images shot from the phone. It enhances the zooming ability of the camera, allowing users to extend it from the device. Tecno has released an official teaser video of the new telescopic macro lens. The video showcases a proxy phone where the lens extends from the chassis.

The video also shows the retractable lens, which allows users to shoot pictures of the subject, even from a distance. The company claims the result of the new lens can be compared to the main camera with just 5x zoom on it. The new Tecno telescopic macro shooter would make a great addition to wildlife photography as well as to click pictures of the nighttime sky.

What's more, Tecno says there's scope for a bigger aperture on the extendable lens. This would make it ideal to shoot in low-lit environments. Additionally, the popular Chinese company said the design of the new camera is compact, surpassing the need for too much space under the hood. However, Tecno has refrained from providing details.

Let's admit it. Advanced smartphone photography is exquisitely possible on premium mid-range devices and above. When it comes to mobile photography, Apple iPhones have secured one of the highest ranks, despite launching devices with just one or two lenses for generations. Next up, we have Google and Samsung, bringing in some of the latest techs to smartphone photography.

Other brands like OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, and so on have also delivered some phones with really good cameras. The new Tecno telescopic macro lens with a unique extendable design should surely worry these brands. But that said, one should note that the video only features a dummy model. It's unclear when a smartphone with this tech would arrive.

Moto Razr 3 Tipped With Snapdragon 8 Gen1, 120Hz Display: Coming To India?

Motorola seems to be having a good start to the year 2022. The company earned the title of the first smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 with the Moto Edge X30 launch. Now, we can soon expect another flagship on the way. Reports suggest the new Moto Razr 3 will launch pretty soon, upping the competition in the foldable market.

The first-gen Moto Razr debuted the company's foldable phone streak. However, the company didn't release the second generation. Now, one can expect the third generation of the flip-fold smartphone with the Moto Razr 3 release. Lenovo executives took to Weibo to confirm the upcoming foldable.

The Weibo post says the Moto Razr 3 will sport 'advanced chip computing power, better man-machine interface' and a 'more atmospheric appearance'. The exec's post also talked about the phone's availability, suggesting it would be listed in the Chinese market initially before making its way to the global market.

Do note, this post appeared a couple of weeks ago. In the latest news, inside sources reported to XDA Developers about the upcoming foldable phone. Going by this report, the upcoming Moto Razr 3 will feature an FHD AMOLED panel with a wide notch on the large, primary display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the Moto Razr 3's external secondary display will reportedly include a centered punch-hole cutout that could include a camera sensor. The precise dimensions and size of the displays weren't disclosed. The report also talks about the Moto Razr 3's chipset. Sources say the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor paired with up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage.

Apart from this, the new Moto Razr 3 is tipped to pack several upgrades under the hood. For one, it is expected to include NFC support, ultra-wideband technology, and so on. The ultra-wideband tech would allow users to unlock their cars or control their IoT. One can also expect an upgraded battery and fast charging power.   Currently, the Moto Razr 3 launch date is still under wraps. A lot of OEMs have entered the foldable market now and Motorola doesn't want to miss out. For all we know, the new Moto Razr 3 could debut in the following weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Launch Date Likely Pegged For February 8

Samsung just unveiled the much-awaited Galaxy S21 FE smartphone at CES 2022 and released it in India. Now, the rumor mills have started focusing completely on the next-generation flagship models - the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. While there is no official confirmation regarding the next-gen Galaxy S series smartphones, it looks like the launch event is not far away.

As per a report from South Korea, it looks like Samsung might host a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 8, 2022 to unveil the Galaxy S22 series smartphones. This is in line with the previous reports that have also indicated a similar timeline for the announcement of the next-generation smartphones. Though there is no official confirmation regarding the same, we can expect the company to send the official invites by the end of this month.

Furthermore, the company is expected to start taking pre-orders for the smartphone from February 9. Also, the sale of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is likely to debut on February 24. We can expect the Indian market to get these next-gen smartphones in the first wave itself.

From the existing reports, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is believed to comprise three variants as usual. These could be the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra with the Ultra being the most advanced variant with superior camera aspects. All these three smartphones are confirmed to make use of the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset or the Exynos 2200 processor in select markets based on the region of availability. This trend is nothing new as we have been seeing the same for years.

When it comes to other specifications, the standard variant of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected to be a compact model in the series with a 6.06-inch display and a peak brightness of 1000 nits. On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22 Ultra variants are to sport bigger displays of 6.55-inch and 6.81-inch display panels. Also, these models are tipped to have the brightest displays ever on smartphones with a peak brightness of 1750 nits and a contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1.

Also, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could arrive with a slot to hold the S Pen stylus, which makes it an effective replacement to the Galaxy Note series smartphones. Moreover, recent reports claim that the Ultra variant of the series could arrive with a 1TB storage variant, which will make it a direct rival to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Furthermore, it is also believed to make use of a 108MP primary camera. One of the latest reports talks about a Super Clear Lens, which could further enhance the camera performance. However, it is unclear if the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus would also get this feature. But given that the vanilla variant might also sport this feature, we can expect the Plus variant to also get it. All these models are said to arrive with support for 45W fast charging while their battery capacities might be different.

Samuel Umtiti takes salary cut, allows Barcelona to register Ferran Torres

Torres was presented last week but hadn't been added to the squad because Barcelona couldn't make room for him without breaching the Spanish league's strict financial fair play rules. The Catalan club said it reached a deal with Umtiti to extend his contract until 2026, reducing part of the salary the French defender was due to receive in the year and a half remaining on his contract.

"Through this contract extension, Barcelona will be able to increase its financial fair play' quota and thus register Torres with the Spanish league," the club said. Barcelona paid an initial fee of 55 million euros ($62 million) to sign Torres from Manchester City. The 21-year-old Spain forward signed a five-year deal with the Spanish club with a buyout clause of 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion). Team captains Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto had all taken salary cuts last year to help the financially troubled club.

Lionel Messi had agreed to a 50% salary reduction but it wasn't enough for the club to be able to keep him, leading to his move to Paris Saint-Germain. "Barcelona wishes to publicly express its gratitude to Samuel Umtiti for his willingness and the affection that he has demonstrated towards the club," Barcelona said. Torres hasn't played since October because of a foot injury sustained on international duty with Spain.

He was among the Barcelona players who tested positive for the coronavirus recently and will not make the trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup. The Catalan club plays Real Madrid in the semifinals Wednesday.

AFCON 2021: Morocco, Gabon open Group C with wins

The Black Stars and the Atlas Lions looked to be heading for a point apiece from a match that was lacking in entertaining until Boufal popped up with an 83rd-minute winner in Yaounde.

Morocco captain Romain Saiss failed to take a good chance to open the scoring when he nodded Boufal's fizzed free-kick over the bar a few minutes before the end of a poor first half The quality did not improve after the break, but Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced a brilliant save to tip Joseph Paintsil's measured right-foot shot around the post after 72 minutes.

Boufal then snatched the victory when he drilled in with his right foot from inside the penalty area after the ball came off Thomas Partey's boot and fell nicely for him and there was no way back for Ghana.

Comoros undone by Boupendza

In the other Group C fixture on Monday (January 10), Gabon ensured Comoros' Africa Cup of Nations finals debut was one to forget as they started their campaign with a 1-0 win. Aaron Boupendza's superb finish from a tight angle proved the difference in a game defined by otherwise wayward shooting.

Louis Ameka Autchanga slid Boupendza down the left flank and the Al-Arabi forward left Comoros goalkeeper Ali Ahamada stranded with a stunning strike. Comoros dominated possession and had eight attempts to Gabon's seven as they attempted to find a way back into the contest.

But just one of those efforts hit the target, leaving them with an uphill climb to qualify from a group also featuring Morocco and Ghana. Gabon could potentially book their place in the next stage with a win over Ghana on Friday (January 14).

Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa: McTominay puts fortunate Red Devils into FA Cup fourth round

McTominay scored his second goal of the season after only seven minutes at Old Trafford on Monday night (January 10) and that was enough to set up a fourth-round tie at home to Middlesbrough. Villa were the better side, but it was a frustrating night for boss Steven Gerrard in the Liverpool legend's first trip to United as a manager, with Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings having second-half goals disallowed.

Gerrard's side had plenty of chances to at least force extra time in a breathless encounter, but United responded with a victory amid talk of unrest in the camp following a defeat against Wolves. McTominay got the Red Devils off to a great start, nodding Fred's superb whipped cross from the right beyond Emiliano Martínez Villa took that early blow on the chin and David de Gea made a fine save to keep out John McGinn's rasping drive, before Watkins rattled the crossbar after producing a lovely piece of skill to beat Victor Lindelof following a poor mistake from the Sweden defender.

Jacob Ramsey's shot deflected narrowly wide as Villa continued to apply the pressure, but they needed a Matty Cash block to keep out Bruno Fernandes' goal-bound strike and a sharp Martinez save from Luke Shaw's long-drive thunderbolt to avoid going two goals behind in an entertaining first half. Ings thought he had equalised from inside the six-yard box five minutes into the second half, but referee Michael Oliver ruled the goal out for a foul by Ramsey on Edinson Cavani.

There was more frustration for Villa soon after when Watkins applied the finish but Ings had strayed just offside before he raced clear and failed to beat De Gea. The busy De Gea then palmed Cash's well-struck effort around the post before getting a fingertip on Watkins' strike and although United fans voiced their fury when Marcus Rashford failed to react as the ball went loose following Martinez's save from Mason Greenwood, they were able to celebrate reaching round four.

Pro Kabaddi League 2021: All-round Tamil Thalaivas outclass Haryana Steelers 45-26

Manjeet clinched a Super 10 for the Thalaivas who also saw their prized defensive duo of Surjeet Singh (8 tackle points) and Sagar (7 tackle points) getting High 5s. Haryana coach Rakesh Kumar will have to lot to ponder with the entire team failing to turn against a fully-charged Thalaivas. The first half was a high-scoring affair with Tamil Thalaivas dominating the early minutes. Captain Surjeet Singh and Sagar were in no mood to let the Haryana raiders settle as they dished out tackle after tackle to get their team an ALL OUT in the 5th minute.

The defence set the tempo for the Thalaivas while Manjeet, back again in the line-up after missing Thalaivas' previous encounter, and K. Prapanjan picked up the raid points. The team from Chennai got their second ALL OUT with 8 minutes left to interval and opened a 14-point lead. But kabaddi is a game of momentum and Vikash Kandola quickly turned it around for the Steelers. He found errors in an over-enthusiastic Tamil defence and helped Haryana claw their way back into the contest. They got their first ALL OUT with 2 minutes remaining for half-time to reduce Thalaivas' lead to 5 points. Tamil's Sagar got his High 5 before the teams switched sides with the scores at 24-18.

The second half was a repeat of the first with Thalaivas continuing their good form. Sagar made the right corner a no-entry zone for Haryana raiders, while their raiders continued to impress. The team got their third ALL OUT in the 3rd minute after the restart as Haryana looked answerless. It only got worse for the Steelers who conceded another ALL OUT with 5 minutes remaining as Surjeet Singh claimed his High 5 and Manjeet got his Super 10. The 18-point lead going into the last 5 minutes proved too much for the Haryana raiders as Tamil Thalaivas clinched the win.

PKL 2021-22: Jaipur Pink Panthers end Dabang Delhi's unbeaten run with a narrow win

Naveen Kumar and Arjun Deshwal, who were both on Super 10 streaks for their respective teams, failed to cross the milestone in the tactical warfare. But coach Sanjeev Baliyan and his Jaipur team had the last laugh with Sahul Kumar picking up a High 5 (8 tackle points) and Deepak Hooda getting 9 raid points. Delhi's unbeaten run in Season 8 came to an end as the lack of a secondary raider to assist the prolific Naveen Kumar proved too costly.

The first half was a cagey affair with both Naveen Kumar and Arjun Deshwal failing to produce any moment of raiding magic. Delhi started the better side with their experienced defensive line-up charged up for the match. By the 10th minute, they had managed to reduce Jaipur to just 3 men on the mat. But Sahul Kumar produced a Super Tackle to swing the match in the Panthers' favour. Both sides matched each other in an intense end to the half that saw Naveen survive two injury scares. The scores were 12-12 at the interval with both sides failing to inflict an ALL OUT.

Delhi started the second half brightly and got an ALL OUT in the 5th minute. Their 5-point lead did not last long, however, with Jaipur's defence finding form. Sahul Kumar raced to his High 5 as Jaipur ensured the scores were level at the Time Out in the 10th minute. Deepak Hooda was in good form for the Panthers as they pushed for an ALL OUT on Delhi and take the lead. But Delhi held firm with Ashu Malik managing a Super Tackle.

Delhi had a 4-point going into the last 5 minutes, but Jaipur's Deepak Hooda finally got a 2-point raid that ultimately paved the way for an ALL OUT. The momentum helped the Panthers take the lead in the final minutes and win the match, ending Delhi's unbeaten streak.

SC restrains Tripura cops from acting on notice to Twitter against journalist's tweets on violence

The Supreme Court Monday restrained Tripura Police from acting on its notice to Twitter Inc with regard to a journalist's tweet about alleged communal violence in the state. A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and A S Bopanna issued notice on the plea and tagged the plea of Samiullah Shabbir Khan with other pending matters.

The bench said, "Issue notice. Pending further orders, there shall be an ad-interim direction staying the first respondent (Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime)) from acting on the communication dated November 22, 2021 with regard to the petitioner in these proceedings", the bench said.

Advocate Sharukh Alam, appearing for Khan, said the notice issued by the Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) cell of Tripura Police under section 91 of CrpC to the Twitter Inc has sought browsing history of the petitioner, his telephone number, and IP address, besides preserving of the tweet for investigation of the criminal case lodged against the petitioner. Alam sought to know since when writing about communal violence amounted to contributing to the violence, and submitted that the police notice was an invasion of the petitioner's privacy.

The bench recorded Alam's submission that the petitioner had put out a tweet through his Twitter account referring to the violence and vandalisation of religious places and had tagged Tripura Police. It noted that on November 22 last year, a communication was addressed by Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) of Tripura Police to Twitter Inc adverting to the FIR registered against various sections of IPC and UAPA. The bench said the communication sought removal of contents of the said twitter account, whose links are provided and the preservation of the content from October 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022, details of user, browsing logs from October 1, 2021 to November 7, 2021 and mobile number registered with the Twitter account. "It is being submitted that writing about violence will certainly not attract any of the offence to which reference has been made in the communication," the bench recorded the submission of Alam.

In his plea, Khan has said that he received a notice from Twitter informing him about the communication from Tripura Police and about the inquiry which has been initiated. On November 17 last year, the top court had directed Tripura Police not to take any coercive action against the three civil society members, including a journalist, in connection with an FIR lodged under the harsh UAPA provisions against them for allegedly bringing facts through social media posts about "targeted violence" against the minority community in the state.

The three persons, who were part of a fact-finding committee, have also challenged the Constitutional validity of some provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 on the grounds that the definition of "unlawful activities" is vague and wide; moreover, the statute makes grant of bail to accused very difficult. The FIR took note of a tweet of one of the members of the civil society which had stated that "Tripura is burning". Last year, the north-eastern state witnessed incidents of arson, looting and violence after reports emerged from Bangladesh that the Hindu minorities there had been attacked during 'Durga Puja' on allegations of blasphemy. Hockey stick and ball become party symbol of Captain Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress

Captain Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress party has got hockey stick and ball as the election symbol, the party announced the news on Twitter.

"Happy to inform that Punjab Lok Congress has received it's Party Symbol - Hockey Stick and Ball," a tweet from the party's official handle said. Amarinder Singh, who led Congress to victory in the 2017 Punjab elections, quit the party after he was forced to resign from the post of Chief Minister. His fallout with state president Navjot Singh Sidhu was one of the reasons why he left the grand old party.

He then floated Punjab Lok Congress and will have an alliance with the BJP. 79-year-old Singh had vowed to defeat Sidhu. Singh claimed that he would go to any extent to stop Sidhu from becoming the next Chief Minister of Punjab stating that he was "a dangerous man" for the country. He predicted that the party would not win 10 seats if the former cricketer was made the CM face. On the other end, the Shiromani Akali Dal broke the 23-year-old alliance with the BJP in 2020 over contentious farm bills.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced that assembly elections in Punjab will be held in a single phase on February 14, and the counting of votes will be done on March 10.

The BJP's UP unit chief, Swatantra Dev Singh said that after appraising the state's every assembly constituency of the government's achievements through the Jan Vishwas Yatras, the party will start door-to-door campaign from Tuesday.

The party leaders will reach out to the people following the COVID-19 protocol and will inform the people about the work done by the State and Union Government. The BJP will reach out to all households falling under the 92,821 polling centre comprising 1,74,351 booths.

Singh said that these raths will reach each of the 403 assembly segments. He said that the BJP would launch LED raths with large screens after Makar Sankranti on January 14 to send out the message. The state will witness polling in seven phases starting February 10 and counting will be held on March 10. The BJP in 2017 had won the elections handsomely and is looking to retain power.

Goa elections: Congress may upset BJP's plans, say observers

With just over a month to go for Assembly elections in Goa, political observers feel the Congress may upset BJP's plans for retaining power in the coastal state, but appear less enthused about Trinamool Congress, whose entry has added colour to the poll campaign.

"Congress will win around 20 of the 40 Assembly seats, while the BJP will garner around 15 seats," a veteran political analyst based in the Goa capital told PTI.

"The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) is likely to win 3 to 4 seats, and the Aam admi Party (AAP) will bag a seat or two," the analyst said. He attributed the poll prospects of MGP, which came into prominence under the leadership of Goa's first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar, to its alliance with the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC. "On its own, MGP may have fared very badly. But TMC's monetary clout will help it," he added. Former State Election Commissioner Prabhakar Timblo said Congress will form the next government in the coastal state. "Anti-incumbency is very high in the state, and that will work against the BJP," he added.

The grand old party will win around 20-22 seats, Timblo said. "Congress will do well as long as it does not project those who have crossed their expiry date in politics in these elections," he added. Timblo was emphatic that neither TMC nor AAP will have much of an impact in the February 14 elections. Giriraj Pai Vernekar, a political analyst and a BJP sympathizer, said the ruling party presented a report card of its regime's performance in the last 10 years, while seeking votes.

"BJP is not afraid of anti-incumbency as people know that a double-engine government is necessary to continue the state's development. Otherwise, there is confrontation between the Centre and the state, as in case of West Bengal," he said. Durgadas Kamat, General Secretary of Goa Forward Party (GFP), which has a pre-poll alliance with Congress, said that the alliance will be victorious. "There is a groundswell against the BJP and in favour of Congress and GFP as people know we can give a good and honest government," he said. AAP Goa unit convener Rahul Mhambrey said the Arvind Kejriwal-led party is projecting "fresh and clean faces" in the next month's Assembly elections. "People have seen the Delhi model of development. We will emulate it here," he added.

There is also a talk of a grand alliance of all opposition parties that could effectively avoid the split of the traditional Congress votes in many constituencies and cause concern for the ruling BJP. However, nothing concrete has emerged on that front so far. Prominent leaders like PM Narendra Modi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were in Goa ahead of the elections.

BJP chief J P Nadda, Union minister Nitin Gadkari and former Union minister P Chidambaram were other prominent leaders to visit the coastal state. Two major pre-poll alliances took shape in Goa. Congress has tied up with GFP, a regional outfit that was a part of the Manohar Parrikar government in 2017, while TMC has found a regional partner in the form of MGP, which fought the 2017 polls in alliance with the Shiv Sena but later joined the Parrikar-led government. In the last few months, many posters featuring Mamata Banerjee's photo and the slogan 'Goenchi Navi Sakal' (Goa's new dawn) have been put across the state.

TMC MPs Mahua Moitra and Derek O'Brien are leading the party's campaign in Goa. AAP entered Goa's political scene during the 2017 Assembly elections and tried to build a base in the coastal state. In the 2017 Goa Assembly polls, BJP won only 13 seats while Congress won in 17 constituencies. However, BJP staked claim to form the government with the support of 3 MGP MLAs, 3 GFP MLAs, two Independents and an NCP MLA under the leadership of Parrikar who resigned as defence minister to return to the coastal state. After Parrikar's death in March 2019, then Assembly Speaker Pramod Sawant became the CM. Sawant's administration has come in for praise from PM Modi for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and vaccination drive. PTI

2021 was fifth hottest year on record

The year 2021 was the fifth hottest year on record, scientists from Europe said. The annual average temperature was 1.1 to 1.2 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels measured between 1850 and 1900, the Copernicus Climate Change Service said.

This was despite the cooling effect of the natural La Niña weather phenomenon and the C3S found that the last seven years have been the warmest years on record by a clear margin. 2020 and 2016 were the hottest years on record.

The levels of planet warming gases such as carbon dioxide and methane increased with no sign of a slowdown. Methane is the gas most responsible for global warming after CO2. CS3 said that last summer was Europe's hottest on record. In July and August a Mediterranean heatwave stoked intense wildfires in countries including Greece and Turkey.

What to expect from the Indo-China military commander level talks

The meeting between the Corps Commanders of India and China will take place on the Chinese side of the Chushul-Moldo Border Personnel Meeting Point.

India has hopes that the meeting would be a constructive one and all pending issues would be sorted out. The Indian delegation this time would be led by Lt. General Anindya Sengupta.

Lt. General Sengupta had taken over from Lt. General P G K Menon as the Commander of the Fire and Fury Corps last week. This would be the 14th found of talks with China and it would be held on January 12. The two sides had not spoken since October 10 last year.

The deadlock continued since Beijing opposed the proposal made by New Delhi to resolve the remaining issues in the friction points along the LAC in one go. The last time the two sides met was at the Chuhul-Moldo border on October 10 2021. The Indian side has sent several proposals for the next round of talks, but the response has not been favourable.

India has maintained that all friction points between Depsang and Chumar should be collectively tackled during the military commander level talks. China on the other hand has not been consistent in its replies. It keeps changing its demands and hence the Indian side is not aware of which of the proposals need to be taken seriously.

"The Indian side...made constructive suggestions for resolving the remaining areas but the Chinese side was not agreeable and also could not provide any forward-looking proposals," a statement after the last round of talks read.

Delhi CM Kejriwal to address press conference on Covid situation

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will address a press conference on COVID at 12 noon today.

Amid rising cases, the Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), which formulates Covid management policies for the capital, suspended the dine-in facility at restaurants and closed bars in view of the rising cases in the city.

According to government data, 70 Covid patients have died in the capital in the first 10 days of January. It reported 17 fatalities each on Sunday and Monday. It recorded 54 fatalities in the last five months - nine in December, seven in November, four in October, five in September and 29 in August. In July, the virus had claimed 76 lives in the capital. Government data showed that of the 46 patients who died between January 5 and January 9, as many as 34 had comorbidities such as cancer and heart and liver diseases, while 25 were aged above 60.

Only 11 of the 46 were vaccinated against the coronavirus. The positivity rate of 25 percent reported on Monday is the highest since May 4 last year. The number of new infections (19,166) was low as compared to Sunday as only 76,670 tests (comparatively lower number) were conducted the previous day. After a DDMA meeting to discuss ways to strictly enforce existing restrictions, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said, "In view of the increase in positive cases, it was decided to close restaurants and bars and to allow 'takeaway' facility only." Currently, restaurants and bars are allowed to operate at 50 per cent of their seating capacity.

"It was also decided to allow operation of only one weekly market per day per zone," Baijal tweeted. Officers were also advised to strictly ensure people wear masks and adhere to social distancing norms in markets and public areas to break the chain of transmission. The authority discussed that restrictions imposed in Delhi should be extended in the National Capital Territory Region in view of the unhindered flow of people between the NCR cities. It was also discussed if the seating capacity in Metro trains and city buses can be reduced from 100 percent at present to 50 percent.

According to the opinion poll, the BJP is likely to win 227 to 254 seats when compared to the 312 it bagged in 2017. The Samajwadi Party will see major gains and is projected to win 136 to 151 seats. The party had won just 47 in the previous elections.

CES 2022: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 To Use AMD Chips Again

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is once again serving as the face of AMD's new AMD Advantage partner program, which was launched Tuesday at CES 2022. That means it'll be one of the first systems to arrive with AMD's revised Advantage design architecture, which features AMD's newest technologies, many of which are aimed at extending the battery life of gaming laptops and enhancing performance by channeling more power where it's required when it's needed.

The laptops include the most up-to-date components and enhanced display technology, with the Zephyrus G14 being the first to include AMD's new Radeon RX 6800S mobile GPU.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Features

The new laptops use AMD's new Ryzen 9 6900HS low-power/high-performance CPU for tiny gaming laptops, as well as AMD's new mobile GPUs, the AMD Radeon RX 6700S or RX 6800S, both of which are aimed at the same low-power/high-performance tier. To cool the processors crammed into the small design, Asus uses vapor chambers and liquid metal, as do many other manufacturers. The laptop comes with Windows 11 pre-installed and supports up to 32GB of DDR5 4800MHz RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for storage.

There are also several ports available for people who require a variety of connecting alternatives. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, DisplayPort 1.4, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, one HDMI 2.0b port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5mm combination audio jack are all included on the laptop.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Specifications

The AniMe Matrix LED array on the lid, which is a pretty but gimmicky animation feature, has also been upgraded by Asus. Though the default is a 1080p 450-nit 144Hz model, a new option offers a 120Hz 1440p-class 500-nit panel with a complete P3 color gamut. Other minor design adjustments, such as improved webcams and an updated command center, make for a bit more than a rote upgrade. The speakers have been restructured by Asus, with upward-firing tweeters and downward-firing woofers, and should sound better than before.

The major upgrades include a larger touchpad, an easier-to-open lid, and a more durable coating on the keycaps. The AMD GPUs are the same in the 15-inch G15, but the GPU is replaced with the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. It also features a lot of the same updates. The G14's screen is one of the first ROG laptops to include the company's Nebula Display, which offers a 120Hz refresh rate at QHD resolution, a 3ms reaction time, and an IPS-level panel with Adaptive-Sync. With 500 nits of peak brightness and 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, the 14-inch display also supports Dolby Vision HDR. Small bezels complement the 16:10 aspect ratio, ensuring a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. When ordering the G14, you can also select a normal full HD 144Hz panel.

OnePlus 10 Pro Gets Enhanced RAW Mode, Wider Ultrawide Camera Tipped

OnePlus has released a few more details about the upcoming OnePlus 10 Pro, this time focusing on the camera specifications. If you were hoping for a lot of hardware enhancements from this second-gen relationship with Hasselblad, you'll have to wait longer. These updates are mostly software-based, with the exception of a new ultrawide sensor.

The OnePlus 10 will include a triple rear camera, likely the same 48MP main, 50MP ultrawide, and 8MP telephoto configuration as last year, There's a 32MP front-facing camera, which is a substantial improvement over the 16MP selfie camera in the iPhone 9 and the 9 Pro. A prominent update is the addition of a shooting mode called RAW Plus, which like Apple's ProRAW format, combines the benefits of computational photography and RAW image capture. The traditional RAW mode was available on the OnePlus 9 and the 9 Pro, so this is a welcome enhancement for people who wish to experiment with data-rich RAW files while still benefiting from the superior picture processing that smartphone cameras are capable of.

In the new Hasselblad Pro Mode, all three rear cameras can control exposure settings and take 12-bit RAW data. A new manual video recording mode called Movie Mode is also available. It gives you more flexibility over ISO and shutter speed, as well as access to the LOG shooting format, which is superior for color grading after the fact. Hasselblad provided color tuning for the OnePlus 9 and the 9 Pro cameras, and OnePlus continues to leverage that component of the cooperation. It blends its own (also Oppo's) "Billion Color Solution" with Hasselblad's color science to give each of the phone's three back cameras 10-bit color. If you're viewing images on a screen capable of displaying all of those colors, this should result in smoother color gradations.

Hardware wise, there's a new ultrawide camera sensor with a 150-degree field of view, which is roughly equivalent to 5mm in 35mm terms. This lens can be used in conjunction with a new fisheye mode if you truly want to go for a dramatic photo. The ultrawide features a 110-degree mode, which is closer to the 14mm equivalent offered by the OnePlus 9 and the 9 Pro, and uses AI distortion correction for a somewhat narrower view.

There's one more hardware change to mention: the monochrome camera appears to have been dropped by OnePlus. This was a low-resolution chip introduced in prior models to help with black-and-white photography. The OnePlus 10 pro will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 120Hz screen, and 50W wireless charging, similar to previous OnePlus flagships and ticking all the boxes for a "2022 Android flagship." It will be available in China on January 11th, with other territories following later this year.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is estimated to cost Rs. 68,999 in India. On January 11, 2022, the OnePlus 10 Pro is expected to be released. This is the OnePlus 10 Pro's base edition with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, which will be available in black and gold.

Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z Limited Edition Launched In China; Specifications, Price Tipped

Realme has unveiled the Dragon Ball Z limited edition of its Realme GT Neo2 smartphone in China, in addition to introducing its Realme GT 2 series on January 5.

In terms of style, the new Dragon Ball Z limited edition equips the Realme GT Neo2 with an orange matte glass back design, matte blue stripes, and blue metal side rails. The overalls worn by Goku, the main character of the shonen anime, during his battles against evils are quite similar in design.

The Japanese Kanji character " 悟" which means "knowledge" or "enlightenment," is located next to the camera island. It's Goku's distinctive emblem throughout the series, symbolizing the wisdom he obtained after finishing his intense training aboard his spaceship on his route to Namek.

Realme has gone above and above by offering a custom-designed SIM card pin that mimics the fourth Dragon Ball, as well as exclusive stickers and artwork in the box, in addition to modifying the packaging with the Dragon Ball Z motif. Dragon Ball fans and collectors will be ecstatic to see that the artwork depicts Goku's battle highlights from the Dragon Ball Z series in a small, compact, and appealing card-shaped format.

Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z Specifications

The Realme GT Neo 2 has a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera. A 16MP front-facing camera is in charge of selfies. The camera app interface resembles that of other Realme smartphones running Realme UI 2.0. The most critical controls are just a tap away, and a slide-out tray on the left side allows you to access more advanced features like tilt-shift mode, frame selection, and a shutter timer.

As for software modifications, when you turn on the Realme GT Neo2, you'll see Goku, the main character from the anime, on your lock screen! The idea is carried over to the custom icon packs, with each home screen app icon resembling one of the eight dragon balls obtained throughout the series.

Last but not least, the charging animation has been altered by Realme. The 65W SuperDart charging animation has been replaced with a 65W "Super Saiyan" charging animation, an homage to Goku becoming Super Saiyan to recharge his energy. There have been no changes to the specs of the Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z limited edition compared to the GT Neo2.

It has the same Snapdragon 870 processor, 120Hz E4 Samsung AMOLED display, and a massive 5,000 mAh battery. This phone has two Nano-SIM slots and enables dual 5G standby as well as multiple SA and NSA 5G bands. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and the conventional satellite navigation systems are among the communication standards.

Officially, the Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z limited edition will cost 2999 RMB ($472), however it will go on sale for 2699 RMB ($425) on January 7, 12AM CST.

Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z Price In India

There are three colour options for the Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z: Neo Green, Neo Blue, and Neo Black. In India, the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant costs Rs. 31,999, while the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant costs Rs. 35,999. Both options are reasonably priced, especially when compared to the Poco F3 GT and Xiaomi's Mi 11X. A 6GB RAM model, on the other hand, would have made the GT Neo 2 more accessible.

iPhone SE 2022 To Replicate iPhone 8 With 5G; Features To Check Out

Apple's next smartphone is expected to be a low-cost device with 5G connectivity. The iPhone SE 2022 is likely to be the name of this device. It will succeed the iPhone SE 2020, which is 4G capable. A lesser-known Apple analyst reiterates the device's features, which have been circulating for some time.

The next iPhone SE, according to Dylan (@dylandkt), will not be what he predicted in January. Instead, it will simply be a spec bump for the current-generation iPhone SE 2020. In terms of design, the upcoming iPhone SE will be comparable to the current model. However, it will have improved specifications and 5G connectivity.

iPhone SE 2022 Features

In a nutshell, the so-called iPhone SE 2022 will resemble the iPhone 8, but will have internal enhancements. According to rumors, this will be the last iPhone with a Touch ID-enabled home button. Apple's 5nm A15 Bionic chipset, which is also included in the iPhone 13 series, might power the iPhone SE (2022), making it the company's first inexpensive 5G-enabled smartphone. The A15 Bionic, which has a hexa-core SoC with two high-performance cores and two efficiency cores, is now Apple's fastest mobile chip. In the meantime, the 4G-capable iPhone SE (2020) features the same 7nm A13 Bionic chipset as the iPhone 11 series.

Release Date for iPhone SE 2022

The same person said almost a year ago that the iPhone SE, which will be released in 2022, will have a design identical to the iPhone 11, but with a smaller screen. He also mentioned that, like the iPad Air 4th Generation, this handset's fingerprint sensor will be located on the power key. Now, he claims that an iPhone SE with the above specifications will be released in 2024. Despite its outdated style, the iPhone SE 2022 is expected to attract more than a billion Android users to the Apple ecosystem.

Apple is planned to debut its next iPhone SE model in the first quarter of 2022, according to market research data company TrendForce, which is in line with other analysts' projections. The third-generation iPhone SE will be a "key instrument in helping Apple establish a position in the market category for mid-range 5G smartphones," according to TrendForce, with a production volume of up to 30 million devices expected. In light of this, MacRumors predicts that the new iPhone SE will be available by the end of March.

ISL 2021-22: 10 things to know about Goa vs Chennaiyin

Heading into the 10th game of the ISL 2021-22 season the Gaurs are languishing 9th in the table with only two wins to their names. FC Goa coach Derrick Pereira has seen his side go winless in the last four and will aim for all three points as they look to move back into contention for the play-offs.

That revival, though, will not be an easy one as they take on Chennaiyin FC. The Marina Machans are a compact side who are known to make things hard for their opponent.

Bozidar Bandović's men looked formidable at the start of the campaign before losing their way a bit in recent days. They, though, come into this one on the back of a 1-0 win over high-flying Jamshedpur FC. Thus, this is sure to be yet another uphill battle for the Gaurs. And to give you all a low down as to what you can look forward to on Saturday night, with FC Goa Media inputs, myKhel.com looks at 10 things that could decide the outcome of the crunch ISL fixture.

1. Jorge Ortiz continues to show his worth on the pitch despite injuries and suspensions keeping him off it for prolonged periods. The Spaniard's mark of 1.9 key passes per 90 minutes has only been surpassed by Chennaiyin's Vladimir Koman and ATK Mohun Bagan's Hugo Boumous (both at 2.5).

2. The 2-2 draw in their last was only the second time in 20 clashes that the two sides drew a game. The only other draw between the two came in the first-leg of the 2017-18 ISL season semifinal when the teams drew 1-1 at Fatorda.

3. Edu Bedia's goal in the last match against Hyderabad meant that the Spaniard became the first FC Goa player in history to score in five consecutive seasons. He blanked in the last ISL campaign but broke his duck with the club's opening goal in the AFC Champions League.

4. Chennaiyin's philosophy of hitting the opponents on the break can be seen in the fact that Anirudh Thapa leads the league in terms of passes into offside positions at 4. No Gaur has more than two such passes.

5. Chennaiyin FC earns the most number of corners in the league with an average of 6.4 per game. Goa earn 4.1 per match, a little below the league average of 4.6.

6. No one has conceded more goals from outside the box this season than FC Goa. The Gaurs have let in seven goals from long distance. Chennaiyin, on the other hand, conceded only 1 from outside the box. ATK Mohun Bagan are the only team not to concede from a long-ranger.

7. Chennaiyin FC is without a clean sheet in their last 9 games against FC Goa. The last time they kept a clean sheet against the Gaurs was during the 2nd leg of the semifinals in March 2018, when they ran out 3-0 winners at home. The Gaurs have also failed to keep a clean sheet against the Marina Machans in their last 5 outings.

8. Goal and FC Goa have been synonymous in the ISL. The last game saw the Gaurs reach the 250 goals mark - the first ISL team to do so. However, goals have been hard to come by for the Durand champions. Their tally of 13 goals is the third lowest so far this season.

9. Chennaiyin's nine games have involved only 20 goals - 9 for and 11 against - the lowest in the league. FC Goa has seen 31 goals in their 9 games. Odisha leads the league with 40 goals in their 9.

10. It is a known fact that it's difficult to stop Alberto Noguera in full flight. How tough? The Spaniard has enjoyed a phenomenal 83 per cent success rate whilst dribbling having attempted a total of 47 dribbles.

The cheetah is returning to India: How the govt plans to bring them back

India is going to be home once again to the majestic presence of cheetah, the world's fastest land animal. Yes, the Government of India has decided to reintroduce cheetahs, under the 'Action Plan for Introduction of Cheetah in India'.

Unveiling the action plan, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on the protection and conservation of seven major big cats including Cheetah. "Project Cheetah aims to bring back independent India's only extinct large mammal - the cheetah. As part of the project, 50 cheetahs will be introduced in various National Parks over five years."

Cheetah happens to be the only large carnivore that got completely wiped out from India, mainly due to over-hunting and habitat loss. The Action Plan highlights the nation's preparedness in bringing the cheetah back. Conservation of Cheetahs has a very special significance for the national conservation ethic and ethos. The very name 'Cheetah' (Acinonyx Jubatus Venaticus) originates from Sanskrit and means 'the spotted one'.

Bringing Back Cheetahs: A Boon to the Ecosystem

Besides conserving the big cat, the initiative in itself is a boon to the ecosystem. Cheetahs live in open plains; their habitat is predominantly where their preys live - grasslands, scrubs and open forest systems, semi-arid environments and temperatures that tend to be hotter compared to cooler regimes.

In saving cheetahs, one would have to save not only its prey-base comprising certain threatened species, but also other endangered species of the grasslands and open forest ecosystems, some of which are on the brink of extinction. It is also observed that among large carnivores, conflict with human interests is lowest for Cheetahs. They are not a threat to humans and do not attack large livestock either.

Discussions to bring the cheetah back to India were initiated in 2009 by the Wildlife Trust of India. Experts from across the world, officials of the Government of India including Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and representatives of the state governments met and decided to conduct site surveys to explore the reintroduction potential. Former cheetah range states, i.e., Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, were prioritised.

Cheetahs will start running in Madhya Pradesh Amongst the 10 surveyed sites of the central Indian states, Kuno Palpur National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh has been rated the highest. This is because of its suitable habitat and adequate prey base. KNP is 748 sq. km. in area, devoid of human settlements, forms part of Sheopur-Shivpuri deciduous open forest landscape and is estimated to have a capacity to sustain 21 cheetahs. Kuno is probably the only wildlife site in the country where there has been a complete relocation of villages from inside the park. Kuno also offers the prospect of housing four big cats of India - tiger, lion, leopard and cheetah - and allowing them to coexist as in the past.

The other sites recommended for holding and conservation breeding of cheetah in India, in controlled wild conditions are: Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary (1,197 sq. km, habitat 5,500 sq.km) Madhya Pradesh Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary - Bhainsrorgarh Wildlife Sanctuary complex (~2500 sq.km), Madhya Pradesh Shahgarh bulge in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan (4,220 sq.km) Mukundara Tiger Reserve as fenced enclosure (~80 sq.km), Rajasthan

The locally extinct cheetah-subspecies of India is found in Iran and is categorized as critically endangered. An important consideration during such conservation efforts is that the sourcing of animals should not be detrimental for the survival of the source population. Since it is not possible to source the critically endangered Asiatic cheetah from Iran without affecting this sub-species, India will source cheetahs from Southern Africa, which can provide India with substantial numbers of suitable cheetah for several years.

Cheetahs from Southern Africa have the maximum observed genetic diversity among extant cheetah lineages, an important attribute for a founding population stock. Moreover, the Southern African cheetahs are found to be ancestral to all the other cheetah lineages including those found in Iran. Hence, this should therefore be ideal (for reasons stated above) for India's reintroduction programme.

UP elections: BJP announces 24 member poll committee

The ruling BJP on Wednesday set up a 24-member election committee, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections this year, PTI reported.

According to a statement issued by the state BJP, after approval from the party's national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, the national general secretary of the party Arun Singh announced the names of the members of the committee.

Former England players Moeen Ali, Alastair Cook engage in on-air sparring over captaincy style

London, January 8: Former England players Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali sparred on TV after the latter opened up about captaincy styles of Cooks and his successor Joe Root. Joe Root is currently the Test captain of England while Cook retired after the series against India in 2018. Moeen too has retired from Test cricket last year to concentrate more on the white ball formats. Cook has played 161 Tests for England and is the leading run-scorer for them with 12472 runs and made 33 hundreds.

Moeen played 64 Tests for England and made 2914 runs with 5 hundreds and also picked up 195 wickets. "Cooky would never give me throw downs. Rooty has a bit more of, I would say, an emotional attachment with the players. He probably spends a bit more time with the players," Moeen said during a chat at the BT Sport. Cook responded in jest: "Are you just criticizing my captaincy?" "I am a little bit, yeah," said Moeen.

Following is the full conversation:

Moeen: "They're both very different. I did do better with the bat under Cooky but with the ball I was better with Rooty."

Cook: "I was going to say, I never dropped Mo. So you might criticize me, but I never dropped you. How many times did Rooty drop you?"

Moeen: "That's true, but he (Cook) also batted me from one to nine in my first year of international cricket."

Cook: "I was giving him a chance. I couldn't work out whether he was a tailender or an opening batsman, so I tried to find the perfect role for him."

How UK is drilling down on FCRA licences in India

The UK government has asked for specific numbers over a period to drill-down on the use of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) by the Indian government around funding licences of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the House of Lords was informed during a debate, PTI reported.

Peers in the Upper House of the UK Parliament debated the issue on Thursday following a question raised by crossbench peer Lord Harries of Pentregarth, asking what representations the British government had made to its Indian counterparts about the "blocking of overseas funds for the Missionaries of Charity and other non-governmental organisations".

The charity founded by Mother Teresa in Kolkata was recently denied an FCRA renewal along with other NGOs, a move the Indian government has said is a matter of "routine processing" by the Ministry of Home Affairs under "well-established procedure and long-standing administrative practice".

"We are aware of some non-governmental organisations that face difficulties in India due to the use of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act by the Indian government, and that some have recently had applications to renew their foreign funding licences rejected," said Lord Tariq Ahmad, responding to questions on behalf of the UK government as Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

"On the issue of the licence in India, I have looked into this specifically, and we do not know why its applications were rejected. I have asked and pressed to see the kinds of numbers that currently exist," he said, in reference to the Missionaries of Charity.

Karnataka curfew: If you have not stocked up booze, then read this

During the weekend curfew, which came into effect from Friday at 8 pm to Monday 5 am there will be no sale of liquor for two days, Karnataka Excise Minister K Gopalaiah said.

He said there is spike in cases in the state, especially in Bengaluru. Hence, it has been decided not to open the liquor shops, according to news agency PTI.

Gopalaiah said the liquor shop owners had given a representation to allow them to run their shops but due to rising Covid cases, their plea was not considered. Meanwhile, Bengaluru police commissioner Kamal Pant appealed to people not to venture out unnecessarily. "The weekend curfew will come into effect from 8 pm tonight. Please do not go to various places unnecessarily and cooperate with the police for your own safety," Pant told reporters. MHA restored FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity

The Ministry of Home Affairs has restored the FCRA registration of the Missionaries Charity (MoC), the religious congregation set up by Mother Teresa.

The FCRA registration of the MoC was restored on January 7, the MHA said. It may be recalled that the renewal application under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) for the renewal of FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was refused on December 25 for not meeting the eligibility conditions under FCRA 2010 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules (FCRR) 2011.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had said that no request or revision application has been received from Missionaries of Charity (MoC) for review of this refusal of renewal. Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was registered under FCRA and its registration was valid October 31 2021.

The validity was subsequently extended up-to 31 Dec 2021 along with other FCRA Associations whose renewal application were pending renewal, the MHA had also said. However, while considering the MoC's renewal application, some adverse inputs were noticed.

In consideration of these inputs on record, the renewal application of MoC was not approved. The FCRA registration of MoC was valid up-to 31st December 2021. MHA did not freeze any accounts of MoC. State Bank of India has informed that MoC itself sent a request to SBI to freeze its accounts.

The Missionaries of Charity was established by Mother Teresa on October 7 1950. On December 12 the organisation was booked under the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act 2003 for allegedly hitting Hindu religious sentiments and luring towards Christianity young girls at a shelter home it runs in Vadodara. "We appreciate the concern of our well-wishers and extend our heartiest greetings for Christmas and the New Year. We would like to clarify that the FCRA registration of the Missionaries of Charity has been neither suspended nor cancelled," the MoC had said in a statement.

JNU circular saying Girls Should Know criticised

A circular for a counselling session by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on sexual harassment, which says girls are "supposed to know how to draw a tangible line between them and their male friends", has drawn the ire of student outfits who said it reeks of victim shaming, PTI reported.

The internal complaints committee (ICC) of the JNU has uploaded the circular on the varsity's website saying that it will organise a counselling session on sexual harassment on January 17. It also said that such sessions will be organised on a monthly basis.

Under the subhead "why is the counselling session required", the circular said that it will make students aware about what consists of sexual harassment. It also said that students are being counselled during the orientation programme and on the inception of each academic year, they need to refresh their knowledge about the same, time to time. "ICC come across a number of cases where sexual harassment takes place among close friends.

Boys generally cross (sometimes advertently, sometimes inadvertently) the thin line between friendship's bantering and sexual harassment. Girls suppose to know how to draw a tangible line (between them and their male friends) to avoid any such harassments (sic)," the circular read.

It also stated that the ICC has a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of sexual harassment. "Number of cases have been dealt with successfully in this academic year. In addition to its usual course of action, ICC, JNU, would like to introduce a counselling session on a monthly basis for all aspiring students who want to know dos and don'ts in regard of sexual harassment," read the circular. It said that students will get to know what is sexual harassment and its prospective repercussions in the sessions.

Listing out the benefits of these sessions, the varsity said that "the number of sexual harassment cases will be reduced for sure". "Dissipate any confusion related to sexual harassment. Anyone could get answer of one's queries related to sexual harassment," said the circular.

It said that after getting 20 such forms for registration for the session, the ICC will organise such events on a monthly basis. On the girls are "suppose to know how to draw a tangible line between them and their male friends" statement in the circular, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh said it was a victim shaming remark. "The ICC in JNU makes a blatant victim blaming remark where it asks 'women to draw a tangible line to not get harassed by their male members'. The ICC time and again in JNU has passed such regressive remarks or conducted itself in a way to moral police the survivor," she said in a statement. "Such a remark, creates a space where harassment in such lines will become rampant and will lead to become an unsafe space for women," Ghosh said.

The left-affiliated All India Students' Association (AISA) concurred with Ghosh and called the counselling session a sham. "The ICC of JNU has come up with a notice regarding counselling session for JNU students regarding sexual harrasment. In one of the reasons for requiring such a session, ICC writes: 'girls suppose to know how to draw a tangible line (between them and their male friends) to avoid any such harassments'. This exposes the attitude of victim blaming which the ICC has been practising," the student outfit said.

"This counselling session is a sham and will only lead to making JNU an unsafe space for women," it said. The JNU administration replaced the Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) with the ICC in September 2017 in its 269th executive council meeting, a move which was extensively criticised by student and teacher bodies, apart from women's rights organisations. BothGhosh and AISA demanded the reinstatement of GSCASH.

Covaxin only vaccine option for children in 15-18 years age group: Centre

The vaccine option against COVID-19 for children in the age group of 15-18 years, who will be inoculated from January 3, would be Covaxin only, according to new guidelines issued by the Union health ministry on Monday.

The prioritisation and sequencing of the "precaution dose" (third dose) for healthcare workers (HCWs), frontline workers (FLWs) and citizens above 60 years of age with comorbidities, would be based on completion of nine months from the date of administration of second dose, which is 39 weeks, the guidelines, which will come into effect from January 3, stated.

They will be able to access vaccination for the precaution dose through their existing Co-WIN account. The Centre will hold a meeting with states and union territories on December 28 through video conferencing to discuss the framework for implementing the children vaccination programme and the precaution dose for HCWs, FLWs and senior citizens.

Eligibility for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as recorded in the Co-WIN system, which will send an SMS for availing the precaution dose when it becomes due, the ministry informed. Registration and appointment services can be accessed through online and onsite modes, and details of administration of the precaution dose will reflect in vaccination certificates, according to the guidelines. The guidelines, however, do not mention which vaccine would be given as third dose or precaution dose.

"Those aged 15 years or more will be able to register on Co-WIN. In other words, all those whose birth year is 2007 or before, shall be eligible," according to the 'Guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of children between 15-18 years and precaution dose to HCWs, FLWs and 60+ population with comorbidities'. Beneficiaries can self-register online through an existing Co-WIN account or create a new account through a mobilephone number.

This facility is available for eligible citizens only. They can be also registered onsite by a verifier or vaccinator in the facilitated registration mode, the ministry stated. On vaccination of children, the guidelines said, "For such beneficiaries, option for vaccination would only be available for Covaxin as this is the only vaccine with EUL (emergency use listing) for the age-group 15-17."

The ministry said that as a matter of abundant precaution, for those HCWs FLWs, who have received two doses, another dose of COVID-19 vaccine would be provided from January 10. People aged 60 years and above with comorbidities, who have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, will on doctor's advice be provided with the precaution dose from January 10, it said.

"The prioritisation and sequencing of this precaution dose would be based on the completion of nine months, i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of second dose," the guidelines stated. Citizens irrespective of their income status are entitled to free COVID-19 vaccination at Government Vaccination Centres. Those who have the ability to pay are encouraged to use private hospitals' vaccination centres, the ministry said.

Keeping in view the recent global surge in COVID-19 cases, detection of the Omicron variant that has been categorised Variant of Concern, scientific evidence, global practices and inputs of the COVID-19 Working Group of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization as well as of the 'Standing Technical Scientific Committee of NTAGI, it has now been decided to further refine the scientific prioritisation and coverage of vaccination, the guidelines stated.

The guidelines' document stated that 90 per cent of the adult population of the country has been covered with at least one dose and 62 per cent with both doses. The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with HCWs getting inoculated in the first phase. Vaccination of FLWs started from February 2. The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from March 1 for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions. The country launched vaccination for all people aged more than 45 years from April 1. PTI

Assembly elections 2022 unlikely to be put-off amidst Omicron scare

The Election Commission of India is unlikely to put off the elections to the five states scheduled to be held next year. The EC was informed by the Union Health Secretary that the five poll bound states are not reporting high number of Omicron cases and hence it may not be necessary to reschedule the elections.

The EC also met with the ITBP and Sashastra Seema Bal, which guard the International border in Uttarakhand and UP and asked them to step up security and surveillance to rule out any attempt by extremist groups to carry out attacks. The EC would also meet with the Border Security Force deployed along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab. The meeting would focus on the security arrangements in the poll bound state which has seen blasts and violence in recent times. The EC also held discussions with. Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau amidst rising concerns in the poll bound states of Goa and Punjab.

After the Allahabad High Court urged the Election Commission to postpone the Uttar Pradesh elections, the poll panel had said that it will take an appropriate decision. The Allahabad High Court had requested the Election Commission to postpone the Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022 by month or two. The observations were made in the wake of the rising number of Omicron cases in the country. The court also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban election related gatherings in the state.

The observations were made while hearing an unconnected bail petition. "If rallies are not stopped, results will be worse than the second wave. Jaan hai toh Jahaan hai, Justice Shekhar Yadav said. The observations were made after pointing out that the court was regularly crowded as scores of cases were listed daily and social distancing was not being followed. "There's a possibility of the third wave of Covid as the cases of the new variant Omicron are rising," the judge said. He also quoted news reports about the number of cases and said that many countries have enforced a lockdown. "Gram Panchayat elections and the Bengal assembly elections infected a lot of people, which caused many deaths as well," he said and added that political parties are organising rallies and gatherings in UP for the upcoming election. Following COVID-19 protocols at such events are impossible the judge also said.

Municipal Corporation Elections for Asansol, Siliguri, Bidhannagar, Chandannagar on Jan 22

The elections for four municipal corporations - Siliguri, Chandannagar, Bidhannagar, Asansol - in West Bengal will be held on January 22, State Election Commission announced on Monday. However, it left out Howrah Municipal Corporation, amid the ongoing row between the Mamata Banerjee government and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar over a bill seeking its bifurcation.

The nomination filing for the January 22 polls will commence on December 28, State Election Commissioner Saurav Das said. "The last date for submitting nomination is January 3. The papers will be scrutinised the day after. January 6 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawing the nominations," PTI quotes the officer as saying.

Of the four, Asansol is the largest municipal corporation with 106 seats, followed by Siliguri with 47, Chandannagar with 33 and Bidhannagar with 41 wards, he said. The SEC said that repoll, if any, will be held on January 24. Counting of votes will be held on January 25, 2022. "The commission has adopted electoral rolls updated up to November 1, 2021," Das said. The model code of conduct will come to effect in the poll-bound areas from Monday.

The governor on Sunday said that he had on November 24 sent back the bifurcation bill -- which seeks to carve out Bally Municipality out of Howrah Municipal Corporation -- to the state government with a number of queries for which clarifications have not been provided thus far. The SEC and the West Bengal government had earlier told the Calcutta High Court that plans were afoot to hold elections to five municipal corporations in the state on January 22 and the remaining civic bodies, where polls are due, on February 27. Elections to Kolkata Municipal Corporation were held on December 19.

The TMC scored a hat-trick of retaining power in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation on the back of a thumping victory, with its candidates winning in 132 out of the 144 wards, decimating a frail challenge from the opposition BJP, the Left Front and the Congress.

MHA refused to renew c's FCRA status, but didn't freeze accounts

The renewal application under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) for the renewal of FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was refused on December 25 for not meeting the eligibility conditions under FCRA 2010 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules (FCRR) 2011.

Earlier Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "shocked to hear that on Christmas, Union Ministry froze all bank accounts of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in India! Their 22,000 patients & employees have been left without food & medicines.

While the law is paramount, humanitarian efforts must not be compromised." TMC MP, Derek O' Brian said "after a filthy hit job on Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity on December 25, now MHA doing what it does best: spin doctoring & a cover up..." "First the Government of India intimidates. For weeks, right through to December 25. And then they pile on the pressure to extract this. Shame on the MHA and its shameless damage control tactics," the TMC MP also wrote.

Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor said, "this is indeed shocking. When Mother Teresa wins a Nobel Prize, India rejoices. When her organisation serves the poor & destitute, the govt cuts off their funding. Disgraceful."

Elections in 5 states should be held before scheduled time: TS Singh Deo

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo said that the elections for the five states should be held before the scheduled date amid the fear of a possible third wave of Covid-19. "It would not be a right decision to postpone the upcoming assembly election in five states which include Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur. The Election Commission of India should conduct the elections before the scheduled time as there are rising concerns over possible third wave of COVID-19 pandemic," ANI quoted Deo as saying.

Expressing his surprise over Allahabad Court's appeal to the Election Commission of India and Centre for postponing the polls, he said, "There will be more problems if elections are postponed as the positivity rate is still less at present. When the country will be in the middle of the third wave of COVID-19, it will become more difficult to conduct elections,"

On December 24, the Allahabad High Court urged the Election Commission of India to immediately postpone the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh for 1-2 months while urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the EC to immediately ban rallies and public meetings of political parties in the state.

"If the commission postpones the polls for now, then it can not take place before September or October in 2022. At that time, the president rule has to be imposed in the states as the term of assembly will get over till the time. The Commission should conduct the elections before decided time in view of the possible third wave," he added.

Meanwhile, an ECI team headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra comprising two Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra, Secretary General Umesh Sinha and ten other officials will be on a three-day visit to Lucknow starting from Tuesday to take stock of the preparations for the assembly elections.

Want to manufacture BrahMos so that no country has audacity to cast evil eye on us: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that India is manufacturing BrahMos missiles not to attack any country and it is developed to prevent the enemies from looking the country with "an evil eye." "The BrahMos missile and other weapons and defence equipment we are manufacturing are not to attack any other country.

It has never been the character of India to attack any other country or grab even an inch of land of any country," he said. "We want to manufacture BrahMos on Indian soil so that no country has the audacity to cast an evil eye on India," Singh stated.

"India should have nuclear deterrents so that no country in the world can attack us, and we have shown this," the Defence Minister said after laying the foundation stone of the Defence Technologies and Test Centre and the BrahMos Manufacturing Centre.

"There is a neighbouring country. It got separated from India sometime back. I don't know why its intentions vis-a-vis India are always bad. It committed acts of terrorism in Uri and Pulwama," the defence minister said, referring to Pakistan. Talking about India's retaliation to terror attacks, he said, "And then our prime minister took a decision, and we went to the soil of that country and destroyed terrorist hideouts, and when there was a need for airstrikes, we did that successfully.

We gave the message that if somebody dares to cast an evil eye on us, then not just on this side of the border, but we can go to the other side and hit them. This is India's strength," In September 2016 and February 2019, India carried out cross-border strikes in response to terror attacks in Uri and Pulwama. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "The stand of the country is clear, and it does take security lightly. This is the new India, which does not provoke first, but also does not spare anyone who provokes it."

The defence minister praised him for expediting land acquisition for the projects they inaugurated. "When I spoke to Yogiji and expressed the desire to establish this project, he did not take a second and said that land will be made available at the earliest. I express my thanks that the chief minister for making 200 acre of land available in just one and a half months," he said. PTI

Will polls in 5 states be postponed? Decision likely today

The Election Commission of India will convene a meeting on December 27 with senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare including Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to discuss the prevailing Covid-19 situation for upcoming Assembly elections in five states, reports ANI. The top brass from the commission is likely to seek updates from Bhushan on the Covid-19 situation and about the new variant of coronavirus Omicron, sources said on Sunday.

The terms of Uttar Pradesh Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur Legislative Assemblies will come to an end on different dates in 2022. After the Allahabad High Court urged the Election Commission to postpone the Uttar Pradesh elections, the poll panel said that it will take an appropriate decision. "Next week we will go to Uttar Pradesh, review the situation there, and then take an appropriate decision," Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra told ANI.

The Allahabad High Court had requested the Election Commission to postpone the Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022 by month or two. The observations were made in the wake of the rising number of Omicron cases in the country.

The court also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban election-related gatherings in the state.

On the other hand, the Chief Election Commissioner and fellow Election Commissioners are scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh to take stock of the poll preparedness in the state. The commission has already visited Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand as part of its pre-poll stock-taking exercise. The dates of the elections for the five states are expected to be announced in January. The EC is likely to get suggestions from Bhushan on improving its Covid-19 protocol for poll campaigning, polling days and the dates of counting. PTI

Year Ender 2021: PM Modi's big announcement to fight global warming and climate change at Glasgow summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised many with his bold pledge at the Glasgow climate change summit that India, the world's third-biggest emitter, will reach net zero by 2070! His statement at around 10 minutes was much longer than allocated to world leaders and he expressed his apology to the chair for overshooting the time limit while highlighting that it reflects India's firm commitment in the area.

Putting Climate Change at Centre of Policies

Modi said that India is putting climate change at centre of its policies and stressed on the need to include climate adaptation policies in school syllabus to make the next generation aware of the issues. "Today the entire world acknowledges that India is the only big economy in the world that has delivered both 'in letter and spirit' on its Paris commitments. We are making all possible efforts in a resolute manner. We are working hard and we will show results," Prime Minister said in a much-anticipated address.

Presenting the country's national statement at the Summit, Modi listed out five commitments of India to combat climate change with a bold announcement that it will achieve the target of net zero emissions by the year 2070.

India's 5 Commitments to World

"India will increase its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 giga watt by 2030; India will fulfil 50 per cent of its energy requirements from renewable energy sources by 2030. Between now and 2030, India will reduce its total projected carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes and by 2030; India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 45 per cent and India will achieve the target of net zero by 2070," the Prime Minister said. Modi also called for lifestyle changes which can go a long way in tackling climate change and urged to make 'Lifestyle for Environment' a global mission. He added, "Lifestyle plays a very important role in climate change. I would like to suggest a one-word movement in the context of climate which can become a key basis for one world. This word is LIFE. Lifestyle for Environment."

Developed Countries Should Fulfil Promise

Prime Minister Modi reiterated that developed nations must fulfil the promised USD 1 trillion as climate finance, saying this should be tracked the same way as climate mitigation. "India expects developed countries to make USD 1 trillion available as climate finance as soon as possible. As we track the progress of climate mitigation, we must also track climate finance. Justice would truly be served if pressure is put on those countries that have not lived up to their climate finance commitments," Modi said.

PM shared how India is the only country to fulfil commitments made in Paris. He also spoke how Paris was not only a summit, but a sentiment and a commitment of 130 crore Indians. He shared how a new India is fighting climate change. From the worlds largest railway carrier becoming Net Zero by 2030 to saving 40 billion tonnes of emission through LEDs, India is putting climate change at the centre of its policies, he claimed.

Experts Hailed India's Announcement

Hailing PM Modi's statement at the 26th international climate conference in Glasgow, experts said India is rightly demanding $1 trillion from the developed nations. "Now, India demands USD 1 trillion of climate finance as soon as possible and will monitor not just climate action, but deliver climate finance. Most importantly, India has called, once again, for a change in lifestyles. If we cannot fix how we live, we cannot fix the planet on which we live," said Arunabha Ghosh, CEO and Founder of Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW).

Vaibhav Chaturvedi, Fellow, CEEW, said that the prime minister accorded a red carpet to foreign and domestic investors by announcing the net-zero year. He said, "India's efforts though will have to be supported by the availability of climate finance from developed countries.

Without foreign capital, on concessional terms, this transition will prove to be difficult. "According to CEEW's 'Implications of a Net-zero Target for India's Sectoral Energy Transitions and Climate Policy' study, India's total installed solar power capacity would need to increase to over 5,600 gigawatts to achieve net-zero by 2070," he said. Aarti Khosla, Director, Climate Trends, said, "By announcing a commitment for achieving net zero targets by 2070, India has responded positively to the global call and it was the best climate action in Glasgow today.

"The commitment of 500GW of renewable energy by 2030, which is more than twice the installed capacity of coal currently, should set the stage for a quick transformation of the energy sector, the kind of which hasn't been witnessed so far. "Ensuring that the new energy regime doesn't bring the pitfalls of the current regime will be fundamental. Solar and wind are poised to emerge as the future in the net zero world," she said. PTI

Kerala Cong chief warns Shashi Tharoor: Fall in line or will be removed from party

Kerala PCC (KPCC) president K Sudhakaran on Sunday warned Congress MP Shashi Tharoor of removing from the party if he fails to fall in line with its decisions. Speaking at a press conference in Kannur, he said, "Shashi Tharoor is only a single man in the party. One Shashi Tharoor is not the Congress. If he falls in line with the party decision, he will remain a part of it and if not, then he will be out."

His statement comes after Tharoor refused to sign a letter prepared by the MPs from the party-led UDF to the Centre against the Kerala government's semi-high speed rail corridor. His praise of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his "investment-friendly" initiatives has only added to growing discontent among party workers.

Responding to criticism by his party colleagues, Tharoor had tweeted that on some issues it is necessary to put political differences aside. He had also said that he would reveal his opinion on the Silver Line project after studying it. The KPCC president said everyone is entitled to their own opinions, "but be it Shashi Tharoor or K Sudhakaran, no one has the authority to oppose party directions". "Such an authority has not been given to anyone in the party, not even an MP," he added. The party has now sought an explanation in writing over the development after which it will take a decision. The Army also assured that action would be taken in the case in accordance with the law to "secure justice for all" and urged the people of the state "to be patient and wait for the findings of the Army inquiry". Fourteen civilians were killed in the botched counter-insurgency operation that had triggered massive public outcry in Nagaland and a demand to lift the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.

SC questions inclusion of family members in matrimonial disputes

The Supreme Court has quashed criminal proceedings against a man and a woman in a dowry harassment case noting that time and again, the family members of the husband are being made accused in matrimonial disputes by making casual reference to them in the FIR. A bench of justices R Subhash Reddy and Hrishikesh Roy set aside an order of the Allahabad High Court which directed the victim's brother-in-law and mother-in-law, accused in a dowry death case, to surrender and apply for a grant of bail.

"It is held that a large number of family members are shown in the FIR by casually mentioning their names and the contents do not disclose their active involvement, as such, taking cognisance of the matter against them was not justified. It is further held that taking cognisance in such type of cases results in abuse of judicial process," the bench said.

The top court said that a perusal of the complaint filed by the father of the deceased, pursuant to which a crime was registered, does not indicate any specific allegations by disclosing the involvement of the accused. "Even in the statement of 2nd respondent (father) recorded by the police and also in the final report, except omnibus and vague allegations, there is no specific allegation against the appellants to show their involvement for the offences alleged.

"This Court, time and again, has noticed making the family members of the husband as accused by making casual reference to them in matrimonial disputes," the bench said in a recent order. The apex court said though there is an allegation of causing injuries, there are no other external injuries noticed in the postmortem certificate, except the single ante-mortem injury i.e. ligature mark around the neck, and the cause of death is shown as asphyxia.

"Having regard to the case of the appellants and the material placed on record, we are of the considered view that except vague and bald allegations against the appellants, there are no specific allegations disclosing the involvement of the appellants to prosecute them for the offences alleged," the bench said.

The father of the deceased had lodged a complaint on July 25, 2018 at police station Kotwali in Gorakhpur that husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and mother-in-law of her younger daughter continuously used to demand a four-wheeler vehicle and Rs 10 lakh in cash as dowry. It is alleged that as the said demands were not met, they used to beat his daughter and threatened to kill her.

It is, further, alleged that ten days prior to the date of the incident, all the accused with a common intention had severely beaten up his daughter and threatened to kill, if the demands of the dowry of cash and car were not met. On July 24, 2018 at about 8 PM, the accused with a common intention beat his daughter, killed her by putting a noose around her neck and hanged her.

Nagaland shooting: Centre sets up high-level committee to examine possibility of lifting AFSPA

The Centre on Sunday constituted a high-level committee, headed by a secretary-rank officer, to examine the possibility of lifting the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Nagaland, apparently to soothe the rising tension in the northeastern state over the killing of 14 civilians.

Vivek Joshi, who is Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, will head the five-member committee while Additional Secretary in the Union Home Ministry Piyush Goyal will be the member secretary of the panel. Other members of the committee are chief secretary and DGP of Nagaland and DGP of the Assam Rifles, a government official privy to to the development said.

The committee has been set up three days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Assam Neiphiu Rio and Himanta Biswa Sarma respectively. The December 23 meeting, held in New Delhi, was also attended by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and former chief minister of Nagaland T R Zeliang.

The panel will submit its report within 45 days. The committee will look into the possibility of the withdrawal of the AFSPA in Nagaland, where it has been operational for decades, and a decision will be taken on the basis of its recommendations. Officials said that disciplinary action is also likely to be taken against the Army personnel, who were directly involved in the botched counter-insurgency operation in Nagaland's Mon district in early December, after a fair inquiry. The Army personnel may be placed under suspension pending the probe, another government official said. Protests have been going on in several districts of Nagaland for the withdrawal of the AFSPA, ever since an Army unit killed the 14 civilians in Mon mistaking them as insurgents.

The AFSPA empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone without any prior warrant. It also gives immunity to the forces if they shoot someone dead. The Nagaland chief minister earlier has tweeted: Briefed the media with regard to the meeting chaired by Hon'ble @HMOIndia Shri @AmitShah on Dec' 23, 2021 in New Delhi. Grateful to Amit Shah ji for taking up the matter with utmost seriousness. The State Govt. appeals to all sections to continue to maintain a peaceful atmosphere".

The Nagaland government will provide government jobs to the next of kin of the deceased 14 people. The home minister had informed Parliament on December 6 that "a team of 21 para-commandos of the Indian Army laid an ambush for insurgents in Mon district of Nagaland on December 4 but "it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity". He also expressed regret over the incident in which civilians were killed by security personnel.

Shah had also said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted and directed to complete the investigation within one month. "Based on inputs received by the Indian Army about the movement of the insurgents near Tiru village in Tizit area of Mon district, a team of 21 para-commandos of Indian Army laid an ambush in the evening of December 4, 2021. "During the ambush, a vehicle approached the location and it was signaled to stop.

However, the vehicle tried to flee, following which the vehicle, suspected of carrying insurgents, was fired upon resulting in the killing of 6 out of 8 persons travelling in the vehicle. However, it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. The two persons who sustained injuries were evacuated to the medical facilities by the Army personnel," he said.

"Upon receiving the news, local villagers surrounded the Army team, burnt two vehicles and assaulted them, resulting in the death of one Security Force (SF) personnel and injuries to several others. To disperse the crowd, SFs opened fire which resulted in the killing of 7 more civilians and injuring some others," he said. Meanwhile, the Army on Sunday again expressed regret over the "sad and unfortunate" incident. It said the probe is progressing expeditiously and all efforts are underway to conclude it at the earliest. The Army also assured that action would be taken in the case in accordance with the law to "secure justice for all" and urged the people of the state "to be patient and wait for the findings of the Army inquiry". PM Modi to launch projects worth over 11,000 crore in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of hydropower projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on Monday. He will also preside over the second ground breaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors' meet, the PMO said.

Noting that Modi has constantly focussed on fully utilising the untapped potential of the resources available in the country, it said a step in this regard has been to utilise optimally the hydropower potential in the Himalayan region. "The projects which will be inaugurated and whose foundation stone will be laid by the Prime Minister during the visit reflect a key step in this direction," it added.

Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Renukaji dam project, which had been lying pending for around three decades. The project was made possible with Modi's thrust on cooperative federalism when the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi were brought together by the Centre for making the project possible. The 40 MW project will be built at a cost of around Rs 7,000 crore. It will prove to be immensely beneficial for Delhi, which will be able to receive around 500 million cubic metre water supply per year, the PMO said.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the Luhri stage 1 hydro power project. The 210 MW project will be built at a cost of over Rs 1,800 crore. It will lead to generation of over 750 million units of electricity per year. The modern and dependable grid support will prove beneficial to surrounding states of the region as well. Another project for which he will lay the foundation stone is Dhaulasidh hydro power project. This will be the first hydropower project of Hamirpur district. The 66 MW project will be built at a cost of over Rs 680 crore. It will lead to generation of over 300 million units of electricity per year, the PMO said.

Modi will inaugurate the Sawra-Kuddu hydro power project. The 111 MW project has been built at a cost of around Rs 2,080 crore. It will lead to generation of over 380 million units of electricity per year, and help the state earn revenue worth over Rs 120 crore annually. The Himachal Pradesh Global Investors' meet is expected to give a boost to investment in the region through the start of projects worth around Rs 28,000 crore, it added. PTI

"It was a kind of poisonous snake. I was hospitalized for 6 hours...I am fine now," he added. Salman Khan was bitten by the snake at his farmhouse near Panvel in the adjoining Raigad district, on Saturday night. He was taken to a hospital at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai at 3 am. UP Elections 2022: Staring at defeat, BJP trying to postpone polls: Yechury

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has accused the BJP of trying to delay the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections fearing defeat. His comments come after Allahabad Court urged the Election Commission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the polls and stop rallies to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking at a programme to mark the birth centenary celebration of the eminent communist leader of Assam Nandeswar Talukar, Yechury questioned, "Was COVID-19 not there when the Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor was being inaugurated?" However, the CPI(M) leader did not explain how the High Court request tantamounted to the ruling BJP seeking to postpone the polls. " The fact of the matter is that the BJP is afraid that it will lose in UP and it doesn't want to face it," he added. He further accused the BJP of targeting opponents using government agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED) for "settling political scores" and claimed that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is using ED to corner its political opponent and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

"Akhilesh Yadav is gaining support (from people) and hence, his local leaders are facing ED raids," he said. The Allahabad High Court had requested the Election Commission recently to postpone the Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022 by month or two. "If rallies are not stopped, results will be worse than the second wave. Jaan hai toh Jahaan hai, Justice Shekhar Yadav said. The observations were made after pointing out that the court was regularly crowded as scores of cases were listed daily and social distancing was not being followed.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India will convene a meeting on Monday with senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare including Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to discuss the prevailing Covid-19 situation for upcoming Assembly elections in five states.

76 lawyers write to CJI seeking action over calls for ethnic cleansing

Scores of lawyers have written to the Chief Justice of India, N V Ramanna and sought the registration of a suo motto case following the religious events in Haridwar in which some called for ethnic cleansing.

Urging Supreme Court to pay heed to this letter by lawyers urging suo moto cognizance to be taken of recent hate speech. No room for inaction. Wake up. Please," TMC MP Mahua Moitra said on Twitter while sharing the letter.

The letter says that the speeches made at the events pose a grave threat not just to the unity and integrity of the country, but also endangers the lives of millions of Muslim citizens. "The aforementioned events and the speeches delivered during the same are not mere hate speeches but amount to an open call for murder of an entire community," the letter said. The letter came in the absence of police action and it sought for urgent judicial intervention to prevent such events that seem to have become the order of the day.

At the event Yati Narsinghanand reportedly said that arming Hindus with bigger and better weapons would be the solution against the threat of Muslims.

Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election Results 2021: Counting of vote begins

The counting of votes for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is underway to decide the fate of 203 candidates in the fray from 35 wards. It begins at 9 am and the results are likely to be announced by noon. According to officials, sixty percent polling was recorded in the elections for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation held on Friday. About 6.3 lakh voters including three lakh women were eligible to cast votes.

"Today's voting percentage was 60 percent. It was 59.5 percent in the last municipal body elections in 2016," said an official statement. The highest 72.81 percent polling was recorded in Ward 16 while Ward 23 witnessed 42.66 percent poll percentage which was the lowest, the statement said. The officials added that the polling was held peacefully.

This year, the number of wards has increased to 35 from 26 in 2016. Traditionally, the municipal election - held every five years - sees a locking of horns between the BJP and the Congress but with the entry of Aam Aadmi Party made the contest this time triangular. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds a majority in the current municipal body.

In the last MC elections, BJP had won 20 seats and its erstwhile ally Shiromani Akali Dal one. The Congress had managed to win only four seats. The BJP fought election on plank of its "achievements" in the past five years.

On the other hand, the Congress and AAP targeted the BJP for allegedly failing to undertake development work and criticized it over the city going down in the "Swachh Survekshan' (a ranking for cleanliness) rankings. The two parties also targeted BJP for not resolving the issue of Dadumajra dumping ground and also raised issues like rise in prices of essential commodities. PTI

IT raids on businessman leads to seizure of mountains of cash

A Kanpur businessman was raided by the Income Tax Department and cash of Rs 150 crore was recovered. The businessman, Piyush Jain is part of the perfume industry.

Images from the raid showed two mountains of cash stuffed into large wardrobes. The cash was wrapped in plastic covers and secured with a yellow tape. 30 such bundles were visible in each photograph.

Another photograph showed IT and GST officials squatting on a sheet spread in the middle of a room which was surrounded by more piles of cash. They were seen sitting with a note counting machine. Raids which began on Thursday are also going on at Mumbai and Gujarat. The raids were initiated by the Goods and Services Tax officials for tax evasion. After the GST officials unearthed the details, the IT department was also called in.

Officials said that the money was linked with the dispatch of goods through fake invoices and without any e-way bills. Imaginary firms were used to create these fake invoices.

Officials who seized four trucks also said that these invoices were for Rs 50,000 each and more than 200 such invoices were created without GST payments. These were found in four trucks parked inside Jain's warehouse.

"A case of fake invoicing and fake credit reported. GST law is that if your invoice is more than a certain limit then you have to generate invoices. In search we found an item on which GST tax rate is of 28% plus cess," said Vivek Johri, Chairman, CBIC on Kanpur search. "Those involved were dispatching material without any invoice and e-way bills. 2-3 parties are involved in this. All the invoices we found were fake. Value of the item suppressed," he added.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday promised regular and cheap power supply for agricultural, domestic and industrial purposes if voted to power.

Priyanka Gandhi slams 'hate speeches' at Haridwar event, demands strict action

Reacting sharply to hate speeches allegedly made at a 'Dharma Sansad' held recently in Haridwar, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday demanded the strictest action against those who incite violence, saying such acts violate the Constitution and the law.

All-India Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has also demanded action against the organisers and the speakers of the 'Dharma Sansad' held in Haridwar, where "hate speeches" were allegedly made against Muslims.

He has lodged a complaint against it at the Jwalapur police station in Haridwar district. Hitting out at the remarks made at the Haridwar conclave, Priyanka Gandhi said, "Strictest action should be taken against those who incite hatred and violence of this kind." "It is despicable that they should get away with making an open call to murder our respected ex-PM and unleash violence against people of different communities," she tweeted. Such acts violate our Constitution and the law of our land, the Congress general secretary added. Several opposition leaders, including those from the Congress and the TMC, had on Thursday condemned what they said was a "hate speech conclave" held in Haridwar and called for strict action against those involved.

Held at Ved Niketan Dham in Haridwar, the Dharma Sansad was organised by Yati Narasimhanand Giri of the Juna Akhada, who is already under police scanner for making hate speeches and inciting violence against Muslims.

Uttarakhand Election 2022: Harish Rawat meets Rahul Gandhi amid rift speculation

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with Harish Rawat in Delhi today after the Uttarakhand Congress leader's public outburst against party leaders.

The meeting comes days after Rawat created a flutter in the political circles, alleging non-cooperation from his organisation and noting that he sometimes feels it is time for him to rest.

"Kadam, kadam badhaye ja, Congress ke geet gaye ja...I will be the face of election campaigning in Uttarakhand," said Rawat after meeting of Uttarakhand Congress leaders with the party leadership at Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi. Reportedly, the Congress senior leaders sought to know from Rawat the reasons behind his criticism. He was asked to continue to work towards ensuring the party's victory in the upcoming polls. In a tweet in Hindi, Harish Rawat had said, "Isn't it strange that the organisational structure at most places, instead of extending a helping hand, is standing with its head turned away or playing a negative role at a time when I have to swim across the ocean of elections."

On Thursday, Congress MP from Punjab Manish Tewari also criticised the party leadership. "First Assam. Then Punjab. Now Uttarakhand.....Bhog Poora Hi Paun Gaye. (Will finish completely). Kasar na rahe jawe koi (No effort will be spared)," he said in a cryptic tweet.

Tewari is a member of the G-23 group within the Congress which had sought organisational overhaul of the party.

Odisha bans Zero Night Celebration, restricts Christmas gathering

Keeping in view the detection of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in the state, Odisha government Friday imposed new restrictions on celebration of Christmas, New Years Day and other such activities.

The new restriction will be in force from December 25 to January 2, the government said in an order. Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra in an order said that in view of protecting the health of the people and preventing the spread of the new variant, the government has restricted Christmas celebration.

A maximum of 50 participants can join the Christmas mass by strictly following COVID-19 protocol and specific conditions imposed by district magistrates, municipal commissioners and local authorities while giving permission for it. 'Zero Night' celebrations and New Year eve celebrations in hotels, clubs, restaurants, parks, convention halls, kalyan mandaps and other such venues are completely banned across the state. The order also said that no celebrations other than weddings will be allowed in the state. Reception and ancillary functions connected to weddings too will not be allowed. While funeral rites are allowed with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol, the order said there will be strict vigilance on crowding and gathering during the occasions.

"No community feast is allowed and no social gathering, rallies, orchestras, dance and other cultural programmes are allowed," the order said. The order said that district magistrates and collectors, the police commissioner of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar police commissionrate and the municipal commissioner will scrupulously implement these guidelines and take all measures to enforce them. "They may impose any additional restrictions as may be felt necessary for containing the spread of coronavirus and to ensure that COVID-19 appropriate behavior is being followed by all concerned," the order said.

Persons violating the restrictions will be liable to be prosecuted as per the provisions of different laws, including the Dissaster Management Act, 2005, it added. A total four instances of Omicron have been reported in Odisha so far.

Kapurthala Lynching: Gurdwara caretaker Amarjit Singh arrested for murder

Hours after Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced on Friday that no sacrilege had taken place at the gurdwara in Kapurthala, Amarjit Singh, the gurdwara caretaker has been arrested for murder, among other offences.

Channi said that no evidence of sacrilege had been found in the incident, adding that the youth was lynched and the probe was pointing towards it being a murder.

"We did not find any sacrilege attempt or any evidence to back it. One person ran the gurdwara. This thing has moved to murder and inquiry is on," Channi said. "The FIR (already registered in the case) will be amended," he said. About 30 injuries, mostly sharp cuts likely to have been inflicted by swords, were found on the man's body, according to the postmortem report.

The lynching took place on Sunday, a day after a similar incident occurred at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where a man was killed over an alleged desecration bid. In the first case too, police are yet to identify the man who jumped over the rails on the evening of Saturday, December 18, in the Golden Temple sanctum sanctorum and allegedly picked up the ceremonial sword. A case under Section 295 A (acts intended to outrage religious feelings) had been registered on the complaint of the gurdwara manager, who claimed that he saw the man trying to disrespect the 'Nishan Sahib' (religious flag).
