TIRUCHI: A group of 11 persons, representing different walks of life, was honoured with 'Best service award' of the Rotary Club of Tiruchi Cantonment at a function held here on Thursday.
Giving away the awards, Rotary district president (service award), Madurai, R. Gurusundar, said that the awardees were a source of inspiration for their colleagues in rendering social work.
"They are employees in government or private establishments, and some of them had stood by their commitment for a selfless service, despite some professional or practical odds." He specifically underlined the role of the Rotary International in its fight against polio.
Rotary district president L. Charles Raja acknowledged the "services of the awardees without anticipating any returns". "The awardees look upon their jobs not as a means for their livelihood but as an opportunity to serve mankind," he observed.
Reading out the citations, Mr. Seetharaman said that the awardees were selected after careful scrutiny. "For example in the case of a teacher, the selection was based on a feed-back about the teacher's services from the parents and management," he said.
Club president M.R. Sadagopan and secretary C. Chandrasekaran spoke.
