BANGALORE: Hewlett-Packard chose to launch its ProLiant G6 server line in India at an event here on Thursday. The servers come on 11 platforms and cost Rs. 25,000 upwards.

HP's Director, Industry Standard Servers, Rajesh Dhar explained, "With annual growths of 15 to 18 per cent and third largest in Asia-Pacific in terms of units sold, India is a major market for us. India comes 4th in the region in revenues".

The Indian market would expand in the months and years ahead with considerably more spending by government, telecom operators and educational sector, Mr. Dhar said. The IT industry which wanted to cut costs to overcome the slowdown, would be other potential customers. V. Ramachandran, Product Manager, said "The G6 servers come with a 'dynamic power manager' software to adjust power flow according to usage and effect power savings."

Small and medium businesses would be a major target as they could benefit from more speed and memory with less power consumed.
