HPCL conducts mock drill

VISAKHAPATNAM: A leaking petroleum product pipeline of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) gave the jitters to officials of various departments at Peda Narava village of Pendurthy mandal on Thursday. The leak was plugged in less than two hours and there was no casualty!
Relax, it was only a mock drill organised by HPCL to verify the level of coordination between different agencies besides creating awareness among the public.
It was around 11.15 a.m. when a line walker was seen trekking along the pipeline, testing the soil with a long iron rod and smells the rod to find the pipeline was leaking. He immediately alerts the Crisis Coordinator on the wireless set.
The Coordinators of the Crisis Management, Maintenance, Fire and Safety, Communications and Welfare wings get into action mode on the scene in 30 minutes flat.
