Players to arrive today but CWG village still stinks

The Commonwealth Games  village opens for athletes on Thursday and greeting them will be paan-stained walls and waterlogged basements, which prove that the organisers have failed to deliver yet another promise.

The crucial question however remains, can the Delhi government save the situation?

The pictures that have come from the so-called world class Commonwealth Games village have shocked the entire country, heralding shame for the nation. The basement of Tower 25 in the CWG village is still flooded, sparking fear of the dreaded dengue fever.

Towers 27 and 28 are in no better condition. Rubbish is seen lying outside and paan stains on the staircase.

It is simply difficult to believe that the athletes are scheduled to check in later on Thursday in this same place. This happens to be the picture of the Games village, a day after filthy conditions at the village shamed the nation with the Games organisers coming under fire for virtually defending filthy flats and dogs on athletes beds.

Commonwealth Games federation chief Mike Fennel is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Thursday. In fact his letter to the Cabinet Secretary exposed the shocking all is well line of Delhi's organisers.

Most of the foreign delegations have now pushed back their arrival dates. The organising committee has mounted operation cleanup on a war footing. 1500 workers have been enlisted to make the village livable. But while it is a race against time the blame game continues.
