Training programme for detecting food adulteration

VELLORE: The Centre for Consumer Education, Research, Teaching, Training and Testing (CONCERT), Chennai, will be conducting a two-day training programme in food security for select women on the following dates:
February 15 and 16 - SHARE (Self Help Association for Rural Education and Employment), Adukkamparai, Vellore; February 17 and 18 - Arignar Anna Government Arts College for Women, Walajapet; February 19 and 20 - Selvam Matriculation School, Vadamambakkam, Arakkonam. According to a release from G. Santhanarajan, director, Food Cell, CONCERT, the centre is actively involved in creating awareness of food security issues such as adulteration and contamination in conformity with the decision of the Union government to observe the year 2010 as the Year of Food Security. Particularly, it is engaging itself in conducting training programmes for women on ways of detecting adulteration and related subjects such as cleanliness in food, Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, food security and consumer rights with the help of retired government officials experienced in the above subjects.
Santhanarajan said that in the changing global scenario, there were possibilities of food products causing harm to the health on account of chemical ingredients in imported food products. Details could be had by visiting  www.cai-india.org or contacting 9840081401.
