All colleges across TN to follow CBCS

From the current academic year, colleges across Tamil Nadu will follow the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

Madras University sources told Express that mark sheets for the exams conducted in November 2009 will be in the new format with students' pictures. A CBCS that is meant to give student more choices in their course of study and continuously evaluate his/her performance will probably help 'globalise' the Indian education system.

"Tamil Nadu is the first State in the country to implement the CBCS system across all under-graduate and post-graduate degrees," Madras University Vice-Chancellor Dr Thiruvasagam said.

The system that was earlier introduced during 2008 had come under criticism for its non-implementation in many colleges while the rest struggled to meet its new requirements- more staff, more facilities, more subject options.

However, some autonomous colleges had started following the system for the PG programmes.
