Tips to improve memory power and thinking ability

DINDIGUL: Self confidence, perseverance, analytical thinking and trained memory are essential not only for scoring good marks in public examinations but also for achieving high targets in one's profession, said C. Sylendra Babu, Inspector General of Police, Special Task Force (STF).
He was inaugurating a 10-metre Air Rifle Shooting Range at S.M.B.M. Matriculation Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday.
Besides good marks, soft skills were equally important to shine in higher education.
Keen observation, interest, understanding and thinking were also necessary not only to study lessons thoroughly but also to know their essence.
While interacting with students, the IG gave various tips to improve memory power and thinking ability

Reading

"Every student should change their way of reading. Mere memorising will not serve the purpose. Understanding every subject and its inner meaning were imperative to write any competitive exam. Memorising will not be helpful in those examinations because they test your understanding levels, analytical skills and application of science and technology," he said.
Mr. Sylendra Babu explained the 'PQRST method' – Preview, Question, Read, Self-recital and Testing – among students to study their lessons flawlessly.
Initial random reading, questioning habit, intense reading, recalling and reviewing what you read, testing the level of understanding and rectification of mistakes, these simple measures will certainly help in improving learning skills, he advised.
"Find the potential, efficiency and power in you and brush aside your weaknesses to achieve the goal of your life."
Later, he taught students meditation with melodious flute recital in the background.
He also advised students to allot five minutes to identify strengths and weaknesses in them and review the work done by them every day.
