Land a job in MNC with help from govt

Imagine getting a job in an MNC or IT major through an employment exchange!

It could well happen, thanks to the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation Ltd's proposed venture through which candidates can be employed by private companies too.

It will probably be the first employment exchange to be managed as a public-private partnership.

Currently, state governments control employment exchanges.

How it works

This initiative will be owned by the government which will provide infrastructure, know-how and assist in assessment and training of candidates. The capital and operating costs will be borne by Team Lease, a leading staffing company.

"Apart from job opportunities in the public sector, candidates will get placed with private companies . This opens up more doors for them," Vishnukanth S Chatpalli , executive director, KVTSDC , told TOI.

Around 700 private companies are expected to tie up with the exchange and candidates will be assessed for career interest and trained if they're not found job-ready . The proposal was made in September 2008.

The authorities expect to get an OK from the labour ministry soon and then start the venture. The programme will cover three exchanges in the first phase and then be extended to other centres as well.

Long wait ends

The main advantage of the new exchange would be getting a job quickly. On an average, a candidate would have to wait for two years to get a job.

However, with private companies pitching in, the waiting time will be reduced to 3-4 weeks. Moreover, as the number of opportunities go up, job-seekers have a wider choice and queues would move faster.

"Free registration can be done by walking in at any of the centres or through the telephone or internet.

The candidate would be given an ID through which his resume could be updated regularly," informed Neeti Sharma, vice-president, Team Lease.

First of its kind

The proposal, made in September 2008, is awaiting labour ministry's nod.

It will be country's first employment exchange under public-private partnership.

Around 700 private companies likely to to tie up with the exchange Candidates will be assessed for career interest and trained.
