"e learning plays key role in educational system"

Tuticorin: A team of students and teachers from the Catholic Junior College, Singapore, arrived at here on Wednesday.

As part of the Overseas Community Involvement Project, the team, which arrived a week-long visit, interacted with students of St. La Salle Higher Secondary School here.

Soon Hock Teo, a teacher of Biology, Catholic Junior College, said 'T' (Traditional) learning, which dealt with chalk and talk, mere theoretical and intimidating test patterns should be withdrawn. Firstly, a teacher should make the students involve in the process of learning rather than studying. They should work out different strategies to try and make them enjoy learning the language.

In the wake of technological advancements, the e (Electronic) learning was playing a decisive role in the education system. Teachers could well use the latest electronic gadgets like computer; television and radio in the audio visual room and disseminate a lot of information to make the class lively, Mr. Teo said while sharing his expertise.

"Nowadays the 'M' (Mobile) learning is fast picking up among students. As for this process of learning, students keep exchanging their ideas through text messaging on cellular phones, sending electronic mail through internet and the like. They can learn a lot of things any time, anywhere and everywhere without permanent physical connection to cable" Charle Nelin, one of the group members said.

As for slow learners, counselling coupled with parental involvement in streamlining the academic progress would certainly prepare them mentally to face examinations. Slow learners should never be discouraged. Through student development programme, moral values should be imparted to them as character development was the backbone in education system, Ms. Charle said.

Bro. Antony, Head Master of the school, said a new audio visual room was set up with modern equipment to enhance students' learning process.
