Madras Medical College to get a new building

CHENNAI: The Madras Medical College will get a new building to be constructed at a cost of Rs.70 crore.

The 41,934 sq.m, eight-storeyed structure will come up on the site opposite the Central Railway Station where the Central Jail was situated.

Bids will be floated in the third week of December, according to an official release on Wednesday.

The building, with all modern facilities, will cater to the requirements of under-graduate and post-graduate medical students, besides those pursuing super-specialty, nursing and other medical courses.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi took the decision considering the fact that the existing buildings were over 100 years old and posed hurdles to people visiting the General Hospital. Hereafter, they would be used for the expansion of the GH. A portion would be earmarked for maintaining old records and photographs.
