Pirated CDs of new films seized

KRISHNAGIRI: Sleuths of Video Piracy Cell have seized 76,000 pirated CDs, DVDs worth Rs. 60 lakh in Krishnagiri on Monday. This follows a raid conducted by Maheswari, Superintendent of Police, Video Piracy Cell, at a video shop and its godown near the old bus stand.Police inquiry revealed that these CDs and DVDs were being supplied to the shops and customers in Krishnagiri, Hosur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Vanyambadi and Bangalore.

It was alleged that the owner of the shop Aslam and other employees are absconding.

Ms. Maheswari told The Hindu on Tuesday that the raid was conducted based on information and complaints received from Hosur and Krishnagiri. A case has been registered against the owner of the shop Aslam. Police are on the look out for Aslam. She said the sleuths of the Video Piracy Wing had conducted raids in Hosur last week, as a result of which about a dozen shops were closed. She told that a total of 1,771 cases were registered in this connection.
