New courses introduced at Corporation ITI

CHENNAI: Three new courses – Fitter, Electrician and Motor Vehicles Mechanic – were launched at the Chennai Corporation ITI in Lloyds Colony on Thursday by Mayor M. Subramanian. Presenting identity cards to 116 students, he said a total of Rs. 98 lakh had been spent on purchasing new equipment and machines for the ITI.

He said large, reputed firms would be invited to conduct campus recruitment, before the end of the course. "There are many car manufacturing companies around the city who will require fitters and motor vehicle mechanics. We will also make provisions for industry-institute interaction so that these students from underprivileged families can do better."

The ITI was established in 1999 when Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was the Mayor. The building had been constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.11 crore.

The ITI also offers computer programming and plumbing courses.

Member of Parliament T.K.S. Elangovan expressed happiness that the civic body had cleaned up a garbage dumping yard at the spot and constructed an ITI.
