AIDS Patients To Be Provided With Free Transportation For Their Treatment

If everything goes according to the plans, then the people who suffer from AIDS will be allotted about 75% concession on their tickets while they are travelling to avail treatment.  Many states have also mentioned that these people not charged while they are travelling to avail medical help. This information was disclosed on Monday by Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court bench comprising of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam was informed by the National AIDS Control Organisation, while the a law suit related to the availing of medical as well as other assistances for the people who are suffering from HIV/AIDS was being settled.

NACO Deputy Director General Damodar Bachani had informed the bench that Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) are provided 50% concession by the railways while they are travelling in unreserved coaches where as people suffering from medical conditions like cancer, leprosy and tuberculosis have 75% concession in reserved coaches also.

He has stressed that PLHAs should also be entitled with 75% concession while they are travelling to avail medical help.Indian Railways Advisor A.K. Nigam, in turn, agreed that he would examine a formal proposal to this effect from NACO, added Bachan
