College teachers thank CM

TIRUCHI: The Joint Action Council (JAC) of College Teachers, Tamil Nadu, has thanked the State Government for announcing the revised UGC scales.

A delegation of JAC office-bearers representing the Association of University Teachers; Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers' Association; and Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Theresa, and Alagappa University Teachers' Association met the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister to express its thanks.

In view of the announcement, the JAC decided to withdraw its agitation programmes. In a release, the JAC Convenor S. Vivekanandan urged the Government to release the UGC pay arrears from January 1, 2006, raise the retirement age, retirement benefits, and pay all allowances on par with the Central Government employees.
