The first indigenously built jet engine of China will make its debut in 2016.This was announced by an official on Wednesday.

The general manager of the Shanghai-based AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co. Ltd, Zhang Jian said , "China is expected to complete its first jumbo jet engine in 2016."

China is also expected to complete construction of a 150-seat commercial aircraft and will launch it in the market by 2020.

Zhang Jian said,"We hope the home-made engine will fly together with the home-made large aircraft."

The company was set up in Shanghai in January to build jet engines. China has been making military aircraft engines in the past.

The Chinese experts believe that the indigenously built jet engines would break the monopoly of foreign suppliers like GE, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney Group. This would also give a boost to other related sectors in the country.
